  • Acadia National Park area updates

Currently they are repaving route 1A from Bangor to some point south of Bangor (looks like to Dedham or Lucerne). This work is being done from 7 PM to 6:30 AM, so avoid 1A at those times.

Southwest Harbor is all torn up and currently road work during the day is causing a detour north of the downtown traffic light. The construction was just beyond the turn off for Harbor Ridge Resort. This may end prematurely in June as local businesses are feeling a loss of business.

The Jordan Pond house is under new management and has a new menu. The menu has little or nothing we wanted and reports are that the new popovers are terrible. Odds are this will be a one year survival, if even that.

Lobster pounds: Word is that Thurston's in Bernard is no longer the place to go, and that it is surviving only on it's past reputation.

Last year I had heard good things about the food at Nemo's in Bass Harbor. When we drove by that way the building was torn down.

The Civilian Conservation Corps performed important work in Acadia National Park, including clearing brush, setting stones, and constructing Seawall Campground. Today park headquarters is located in the former CCC camp.

Yes I knew that. Did you know that an accident involving one of those buses tied up all the traffic on and off Mt. Desert Island when a truck collided with a bus on the only bridge and caused a propane leak. This was a few years ago while we were in the area and there was a shutdown of 4-5 hours on the bridge until they found someone who could work on the propane system on the bus.
