  • Anywhere nice and maybe even romantic around Stroudsburg, or maybe Scranton, PA?

Looking for a halfway point on our way home from Binghamton. No kids. Nice place with some good food options nearby would be lovely. Lakes/hikes a bonus but not a must. Stroudsburg is dead half way, Scranton not perfect but would do. New Hope is too far out of our way or I'd go there.

How about Skytop? I've never been there, but it's supposed to be lovely.

I don't really know PA all that well, but did enjoy Hershey if it's on your way.
The hotel is nice and has a great restaurant and there are a few things to see in the town.
There are lots of vineyards in the area which have nice things going on on the weekends.
There is a Bluegreen resort in Hershey too. Nice location to Hershey park.

ok, I can't tell if you are playing with me since I now realize that Stroudsburg is dead center Poconos, not far from Shawnee where I have spent quite enough time.. so I hear you, Pat.

            BUT

Suskey, I will check it out - in fact I think I've had dinner there on a camp visit. Food was meh the night we were there but the place looked lovely.

Wacky, I'm never quite sure with you, but I will check it out and hope it's not the place with the champagne glass tubs and heart shaped beds

Thanks, Chris, Hershey is too far south - if we were to detour that far we'd go to New Hope. BUT DS is now trying to talk us into going a little further north instead to explore Ithaca, he thinks we'd really like it there. I hate to drive FURTHER on a short weekend, but considering...

Ok, Settlers Inn has a two night minimum. Skytop is available, but very expensive ( at least for the Poconos). But that intrigues me, is that wrong?

You'd think that after living there for 32yrs I would have a list but can't think of any names right now. Milford is a quaint little town on the NY/NJ/PA border. They have some B&B's. The Shawnee Inn is very nice & you could hike Bushkill Falls.

Thanks - maybe since it's so last minute they'll waive the minimum... I'll call on my way upstate.

Pat H - I've hiked Bushkill Falls and loved it, thanks for mentioning/reminding me. I'll check out Milford and Shawnee Inn too.

Well, we couldn't get into Settler's Inn and everything else mentioned or nearby was also sold out. So we ended up staying an extra night up in Binghamton since we were having such a nice time with the boys anyway (bion, even Binghamton was sold out for the weekend, we ended up in the last room available at the Red Roof Inn). We had brunch reservations at Settler's Inn this afternoon but ended up driving straight through. Turns out after perusing the website and seeing the lake W location that it is NOT the place I thought it was, and it looks fabulous so we will plan to try it another time as a getaway. Thanks, all!

Avery, I haven't tried this website seriously yet, but have played around with it in Miami.
Thought I'd use it when doing my road trips to Nola.
Might come in handy for you in the future.
                          They have an app.

one of my favorite restaurants is http://www.coopers-seafood.com/Scranton/index.php. ou can spend hours just looking at the glass cases full of items from shows like I love Lucy and Star wars. At one time it was rated in the top 10 in the US.

Looks like it's just an app with no website, interesting! I will check it out. Looks like more major cities than where we were, but still a good resource, thanks!

Scranton is right on the way, closer to Bing than we generally would stop but sounds like this is worth a visit at least once!
