I got "stuck" in Aruba for 4 days in January and I had no problems with that. But if I was going to Aruba and got cancelled I would not be a happy camper especially with the current weather in NY. So sorry about your ruined vacation to Aruba and being stuck home with this cold cold weather.

Would Chicago have better weather? If so, Amtrek may not be a bad idea but slow and more costly to you. What a pity that you do not have travel insurance as you may need it in the winter but the airlines should reimburse you for the flight cancellation or re-route you at no extra fee.
The weather is strange everywhere because it is the dry season here and we are getting heavy rains and thunder and lightening. I like it for a change but wished that it would go as far as CA and up the coast. We need the rain badly.

Once the plane is in the air what's the difference?
I don't get the logic of re-routing unless they can't add flights.
Might as well re-route thru Fort Lauderdale.
It's nice and sunny warm here.
We were scheduled to change planes in Orlando. They have flights open to Orlando tomorrow night. We could go there, I'd get a room for the night, and catch the early plane to Aruba the next morning.nsouthwest is saying no way. You have to do it all in the same day.
I get that they are re-routing people from all over the northeast but I think they could be a little more accommodating. What's the difference if there is availability on the plane?Jacki

Can you call out cough cough "sick" for another day or two?
That's a long way to go for just a few short days although a few short days is better than no days.
Maybe stopover in Miami and come see me.

I'm glad you're getting to salvage a few days at least. Enjoy! And with some luck maybe you'll get stranded on the other end a few days

Jacki. A Bluegreen owner on property could book bonus time for you for $129 for 2 nights. Unfortunately I am on the wrong island.
Check with la cabana. They will most likely be able to rent you a room. With points, this would be an expensive night stay but maybe because of such last minute, they won't screw you. Email Lawren for possible assistance.

Now I am really upset. I see that tomorrow I can get the same flight as I originally had - Islip to Orlando, then Orlando to Aruba, at the same times I had.
However, it will not let them book it as an ISP-AUA flight. These are the exact same legs as I had and there is room on both the flights.
The computer will only book an ISP-MCO flight and an MCO-AUA flight, and they would have to charge us an extra $800 for the 2 one-way legs.
I'm not paying $800 for one extra day. I kept asking them why can't they give me it when I already had it the first time. They had no answer except that the computer won't let them do it.
The agent spoke to her supervisor, and he wasn't able to make it happen either.
ARGH.....Jacki
