Just sent off a scathing email to Southwest about their not being able to reschedule me on the 2 legs of the trip. I'm anxious to see what their reply is. If they want to establish themselves in the international market, they should be able to see both domestic and international options, or enable customer service agents to override.

You may want to include this thread to show them that your review of them is on the net and has a ton of views. I will make sure it gets in the search engines

Southwest called and DH had a long discussion with the rep. She told him the reason that seats were available on the legs but not on the entire trip is that they routinely overbook on domestic flights but never on an international. The leg to Orlando was overbooked, so even though it showed availability on each of the legs, it would not show availability on the whole international flight.
DH persisted that a supervisor should have over-ridden it; that we lost a day of vacation and had to get a hotel room.
She ended up giving $200 voucher to each of us as compensation that has to be used within one year.
I'm ok with it. The flights were $500 each so $300 for 3 nights is ok.

Glad to hear they tried to make it right for you. Dh calls me "letter writer". I've found that if I describe the problem I incurred, and then ask for what I want in compensation (and sometimes it's just an acknowledgement they did wrong) I've gotten something in return.

Once I wrote a letter to Hilton and asked for the price difference in rooms to be credited to me between what I'd paid for and what I got. I think the difference was something like $45. Not a huge amount, but I was upset at the whole thing. I got a very nice letter back, and instead of crediting me the $45, I was offered a free night at the same Hilton hotel. This was in San Francisco and we were happy to have a free night there. Used that free night and had a wonderful experience. Hilton kept us as satisfied customers.
