Going for a fall getaway - any tips in terms of unit location (we have a queen and a sofa bed, 1 bedroom), things to do in the area (no kids, more interested in restaurants, art galleries, antiquing). Is the spa any good?
Nothing to offer but interested in your experience.
30 minutes to casino with fab restaurants and adult entertainment. Near Mystic Seaport with interesting shops. Aquarium is cool
Nice Red Door Spa at the Marriott at exit 88
I haven't been in a few years, but the Chowder Pot in Branford is a decent casual seafood place. Mystic Seaport is pretty neat, and the maritime art gallery there has some neat stuff.
I'm not sure how much would still be open, but you can take the ferry from New London out to Block Island. The lighthouse out there is pretty cool, and there are several shops in the dock area. They have several taxis that run tours.
try to get a back high room, Spa was great but it will cost you Restaurant there was up class, BTW we renewed of vows there after 25 years, Could not have asked for better

Thanks, Frank -- is "back high room" what they call it at the resort?
I wouldn't do that! You need a car there to get around. I would go nuts if I was trapped at that resort- especially off-season. Unless you are content to just use the indoor pool and gym every day and eat at he subpar restaurant with poor service.
The Chowder Pot is good. There is also an Italian restaurant down the road- forget the name of it.
Haven't been to Water's Edge in many years. My parents used to own there. The Marlbourough Country Barn in Old Saybrook was always a place I went to for country pieces.
As the others have stated- you can go to the casinos, Mystic seaport and aquarium, Block Island. Also- the Gillette Castle. Take a ride down the Connecticut River. Essex is really a nice place to visit where you can take the boat from.
Best to get a condo facing the LI Sound- top floor-unless you have issues with stairs.. One of the buildings is closer to the water and the outside pool. The one next to the restaurant is noisy with dishes clanking and garbage nearby- unless they did something about it now.
Lots of weddings held here which can make parking difficult in summer, but might be ok this time of year.
Rte 1 is usually nothing but traffic, but might be a bit better now during this season.
The units are ok for a couple. The kitchens are efficiency. Full fridge- microwave and 2 burners. Limited supplies. No oven. My parents had a loft unit- so there were 2 twin beds upstairs and also the sofa was a pull-out.
