Second time around...............

Back in July of 2014, I made an incredible exchange for August 2015 into Samoset Resort in ME. We were so excited, did lots of research, and made lots of plans. On August 8, 2015 all our hopes and plans were dashed when I broke my leg just 3 weeks before check in. Trying to salvage something, when I got home from the hospital, I called the resort, explained the situation, and asked if maybe we could be assigned a unit on the second floor if possible, (where you enter - to avoid stairs). Instead of a sympathetic, "I'm not sure what we can do", "or let us check, we'll call you back...", all I got was an emphatic, (almost to the point of rude), NO!! Our dreams of a vacation last year were dashed for a second time.

Fast forward now to January 8 of this year, I managed to score another unit at Samoset for September 8, 2017!!! At least now we'll get to do some of the things we had planned ~ we were really looking forward so much to this trip. I know what a hard resort this is to get into during the summer, and I'd been checking everyday, (sometimes twice a day), and I guess I just hit it right! Persistence pays..........

Good for you! Frustrating that they weren't helpful the first time, but I'm glad you'll get a chance to make the most of all your research and planning!

I like Maine in September. End of the crazy season and the weather is usually very nice. I'll be in Maine the next week. Let me know if you need any info, we have many local relatives near the main park.

Very kind offer ~ thank you. Like I said, we've done lots of research, and are so looking forward to it. Pity we only have 1 week......... As we get closer, I may have a few questions for you.............

I was at Samoset about 4 years ago in July through the largess of a friend in exchange for another National Park location a couple of years later.

Awesome property. I was not expecting the luxury hotel experience at check-in but what a nice way to come down from a long day of driving.

It's a bit of a hike to Acadia over a bridge I wasn't happy about. (ask others about that little phobia) Well worth it for me. I did some great park ranger tours.

I am trying to dredge my memory for the place I had the wild blueberry pancakes on the way home prior to interstate. Really scary looking from the outside, definitely 50s interior but the most awesome breakfast. Wish I had discovered it earlier.

If someone were to ask me what Maine smells like I would have to say pine trees from the minute you cross the state line.

Enjoy your second chance. Nice that the surprises can still happen.

I'm also getting a second chance. Remember when I was supposed to go to estes Park in Sept a couple of years ago when the big flood ruined my plans.? Well I'm going this Sept staying at Rams Horn Village. This is where I originally wanted to go !! It is also the week of the big fall arts festival YAY, my favorite thing to do. I've also decided to eith add before or after to Pikes Peak as there is a lot I want to see a lot of those attractions.

I remember your story! So great you will be going. I really liked Samoset and it is a great base for exploring. Went to Acadia from there- no problem. Just left very early to get there. Awesome! Enjoy!

Thanks!! We were SO disappointed last year ~ talk about adding insult to injury!! We had done so much research, and were looking so forward to this, at least now we can make use of all the time I spent!!
