    The George Washington Bridge

    The George Washington Bridge
is home to the world's largest free-flying American flag.

The flag, which is located under the upper arch of the New Jersey tower, drapes vertically
for 90 feet and flies freely, responding to breezes from the Hudson River or Palisades.

The flag's stripes are approximately 5 feet wide
and the stars measure about 4 feet in diameter.

Weather permitting, the flag is flown on the following eight holidays:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day.

Need Best Route for July/August Travel 2007

      MD - DE - NJ - NY - CT - RI

      Heading North - on I-95
      Then onto NJ Turnpike

How hard is it to switch over to the
GSP - Garden State Parkway North

      (What is the exit and
      does GSP take EZ Pass)

      From the New Jersey Turnpike
I-95 on a (Friday or) Saturday

Should one take Rt 287 or the PIP
To the Tappan Zee Bridge 287/87

How is the traffic and roads on a Friday
Mid-Day South Bound from Rhode Island
via I-95 to the Delaware Memorial Bridge

Thanks for all the great travel tips

Very easy switch over New Jersey Turnpike North Exit 11(Woodbridge) towards Garden State Parkway North . The GSP accepts Easy Pass.

Should one take Rt 287 or the PIP
To the Tappan Zee Bridge 287/87

The PIP will NOT bring you directly to the Tappan Zee Bridge you will switch over to 287E/87S at exit 9 from the Palisades. If you are taking the Garden State you will not be taking the Palisades at all but would also swith to 287E/ 87S. Either way you will cut off the northwest loop of 287 alone. I live in the area and that is the way we go unless we HAVE to go to Mawah or Suffern.

We continued up The Merritt Parkway CT Rt 15
We wanted to stay away from I-95 if possible
but the trip was going so well we decided to
try to get over and onto I-95. When we got to
the Bridge all you could see way Traffic both ways.

We stayed on the MP alittle farther.. Took Rt 34
over to I-95 and again the Interstate was bumper
to bumper.. We turned around and went back to
the MP and up across CT (66-16-2-395 to 138)
Crossed the Rhode Island State Line passed I-95
stopped at a Mc Donalds for a late lunch snack
East on RI 138 and arrived at Fairfield Wyndham
Overlook on Jamestown Island around 3:45 PM.

Glad it worked well for you. You saved yourself a lot of miles and headaches I'm sure.
The Merritt is one of my favorite parkways, my local Palisades is also gorgeous particularly north of here heading towards West point.
