  • DayTrips to Nantucket & Martha`s Vineyard MA

Looking for advice on "How to Get to"
Nantucket and Martha`s Vineyard by Ferry

What are some of the places we should see

Can we rent a car for the day once we get
on the island. We do not bike or do buses.

Also need Restaurant Suggestions - Thanks

IMO Martha's Vineyard has more going on. We enjoyed it more. There are taxis and bus tours for both. Nantucket has a golf course that you can't play at a light house and some homes from famous people including Tommy hillfigure. You can catch ferry's out of the cape or I believe even Newport RI.

The islands have their respective charm and I like them both equally, but for differing reasons. I owned a house on Chappaquiddick for years and loved it
(Chappy is just across a narrow channel from Edgartown - take the "On Time" Ferry over and explore it). I love Nantucket as well for its own flavor.

To get to M.V., try to leave from Falmouth, Ma. To get to Natucket, leave from Hyannis. Try these companies:

      and http://www.smartguide.org/vineyard-nantucket-ferry.asp

Call ahead and make sure that you have car reservations before arriving:

      Enjoy !

Nantucket is our favorite vacation spot, but I wouldn't take the ferry over for the day. At a minimum, I'd spend a night or two. Just too much water time for a short visit. You could fly over instead and give you a longer day there.

Drive out to the Wauwinnet House, rent a 4wd and drive to Great Point Lighthouse, browse the antique stores, go to the Whaling Museum, see the Old Mill. Tons to do there. Just driving or walking around looking at the homes is great fun. Some of the historic homes are open to the public. Great beaches, often with few people. Sconset is a nifty little village. I could go on and on.

Be sure to get a guidebook from the Chamber of Commerce. They're not very expensive and make great reading before you go.

Wish I were there now, but I will be for Columbus Day.
