  • NYC - not timeshare, but WWYD?

Dh Steve is going to be in NYC on business on a Thursday and Friday. I'm flying to meet him and will arrive late Thursday, be on my own Thursday evening and Friday, and we'll have one full day (Saturday) before we leave on Sunday afternoon.

So, what would you do with only two full days in NYC, one of those on your own?

    TIA
    Luanne

And from there maybe down to Soho (on your own if DH d/n like to shop).

      Go to the theatre!

If you like museums, check out MOMA on W. 53rd. If that's not enough modern art, there is a new exhibit of Picasso and those he inspired at the Whitney.

When are you coming? Let me know and I'll see what's around town that week.

          Any special interests, likes/dislikes/wishes?

Too early in the season for ballet, but the Metropolitan Opera is around (no shows Friday 9/29)... the NY Philharmonic is doing Shostakovich on 9/28 and 9/30.. Hmmm, I wonder why there's nothing doing at Lincoln Center on Friday night..

I take back my 'no ballet' comment. 9/28 marks the beginning of the Fall for Dance festival at City Center, ALL SEATS $10. Tix go on sale Sept. 10th at 11 am, call 212-581-1212 or check www.nycitycenter.org.

The programs are at 8 pm (Sunday matinees at 2) and they are nice b/c they each feature several different dance companies... Looks like I'll be getting some tickets myself!

            Here's the press release:

Definately a Broadway show. A club to see a band. If weather is not nice a museum.

That's a great time to be out and about here in NY brisk but not cold.
My special fave has always been the Cloisters but that is a train to 190ST and then a bus. http://www.ny.com/cgibin/frame.cgi?u...e/museums.html

What do you like to do? That would make it easier for us to make recommendations as there is SO much to choose from.

I love Broadway shows, particularly musicals. Mr. Cheap is saying NO shows, but I'm going to get tickets anyway. If he doesn't want to go, I'll go alone.

No opera, do like museums, also like just walking. Don't feel like doing much shopping (or should I say buying). Is it too cheesy to want to go up to the observation deck of the Empire State Building?

See what's available for matinee or evening shows at the TKTS booth in Herald Square.

NO observation deck in NYC is ever cheesy. My sister works at Rockefeller Plaza and says Top of the Rock is VERY nice. They just opened it last year after major renovations.

                    Luanne,

There are some good theatre discounts at www.broadwaybox.com.

If you think you can do Spamalot on Thursday, there is a small discount you can use to get orchestra and front mezz tix for $86 instead of the usual $111. If you send me an email I can forward the info, but you probably don't want to commit to theatre on a travel day...

If you want to go to the top of the Empire State Bldg, you should go!!

fwiw, I go to theatre on my own a few times a year, usually if I end up in the neighborhood of tkts around the time it opens and I can't resist...

                    here's a link for walking tours.. http://gonyc.about.com/od/toursbr/
The Big Onion tours are well rated and they are doing good stuff while you're here: http://gonyc.about.com/gi/dynamic/of...igonion.com%2F

I've been to Top of the Rock and IMO the whole experience is preferable to going to top of Empire State.
More room up top, a more comfortable feeling, and the view is better - you can see the Empire State Building from there and have a wonderful view of Central Pk.

As for museums, MOMA is free on Fridays after 4; all you have to do is line up for your free ticket. The line look awful, but it moves quickly, takes about 15 minutes to get in.

                        Luanne,

You have been given some very good suggestions by everyone. I would definitely do a Broadway Show....You mentioned that you like to walk. There are many fun areas in the city to walk around in, the Village & Soho were mentioned. Depending on where you are staying, or find yourself, Madison Ave., is one of my favorite places to walk and site see....don't need to bye. But, the shops and area are great.

Also, Central Park, and the Museum, across the street, might be a possibility. You can go to the "Boat House" in Central Park, for lunch.

What ever you decide to do, you will have a great time....Enjoy your stay!!!
                        Angela

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Thanks for the theater ticket info. A friend can get me discount tickets for Spamalot (Mon - Friday only), but all seats say they are partial view. Does anyone know what partial view really means?

PARTIAL VIEW Rear Mezzanine, Balcony and Box seats: $45
