  • YIKES!!! This nor-easter coming our way is sounding worse, and worse!

I just heard on the radio that this nor-easter is going to be every bit as bad as the 1992 nor-easter, that hit our area.....flooding, high winds, power outages, etc.

That storm hit our area very badly. My DH's parent's home was totally destroyed in that storm. Their home was flooded, and their furniture was floating around in 4 ft of water, outside of their home. Our electricity was out for days.

Ugh.....Not looking forward to this. I just hope that they are wrong!

We're under a wind advisory for all day tomorrow. Right now we just started to have a sopping wet soaking rain with big drops, steady, no wind. Hope we get a few inches...we're in drought state here in Atlanta.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Your weather predictions make the sprinkling we got today seem like nothing.

We had a small lake in the yard recently from a far less severe storm. DH placed the pump out there today in order to avoid having to wade out there once it's filled up... hopefully though the drywell will work some, it hasn't been doing its job lately. Fingers crosssed....

Come to Hawaii and the sun is shining! I hope that nobody gets flooded or washed out.

We are all set for tommorow. Firewood in the fireplace, candles, plenty of wine for me, and Bailey's for the hubby, stuff to make blueberry muffins, makings for broccoli, potato soup, and chick parm with spaghetti. Got a good book, and each other. What else could I ask for!!

Ann-Marie, can I hunker down at your house?

That 1992 storm was horrible - I think it was the one they made the movie The Perfect Storm about. This one is supposed to be just as worse.
                Stay safe everyone!

Oh, man, I didn't even think of stocking up at the grocery store...
Plenty of wine, though, thanks to Frank (winestilsoldout.com)...
But tomorrow is our anniversary, and we were planning to go out. It rained like hell the night we got married, too, must've been good luck

Anne Marrie....I just hope that we don't loose electricity, so that you can make all that good stuff.

Avery.....I didn't stock up, either. I might send my DH to the supermarket, tonight. Also, I better start looking for our flash lights, candles & lanterns.

I really hope that you guys get to go out tomorrow, for your Anniversary.....I just hate when stuff like this happens!

Tony.....I sure hope that you guys don't get snow. Although, I think that I would take the snow, over the flooding.

Ha! The day AFTER tomorrow is our anniversary. Probably be bailng the basement instead of going out.

Plenty of food, not enough alcohol...if the power goes out I won't be able to make the food.

This storm is a real strange one, coming so late.

I must truly be a westerner now... For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what the s-word was until I read the later post about snow. I lived in the midwest and east coast for a little over half my life - how quickly we forget!!!

The predictions I have seen for the OBX call for nor'easter conditions for two to three days, but it may not have as much intensity as it does farther north. The longer a nor'easter lasts, the worse the beach erosion.

On the OBX, nor'easters sometimes cause more damage than hurricanes. A Spring '04 nor'easter, for example, destroyed more cottages than Hurricane Isabel, which had a direct hit, the previous fall.

Bodie Island Beach Club, closed and in the middle of a power struggle between timeshare owners and a takeover artist, has not had any dune pushes and had some undermining of its foundation in the Thanksgiving nor'easter. If this one gets bad, it could topple the oceanfront building with about half the units.

Dunes South's oceanfront pool always seems to just barely hang on through storms, but then again Ocean Villas II's did so during many storms until a spring '03 nor'easter, when it finally went into the drink. Similarly, Hurricane Isabel finally got Golden Strand's former oceanfront pool in fall '03.

Some resorts could lose significant parts of their protective dunes, which would make them vulnerable if a hurricane hits in the fall. I don't recall if the last day that they can get a bulldozer on the beach to do a dune push is April 1 or May 1. If they have not lost the opportunity to shore up dunes already, they will have to move fast to do it, and I suspect that it will be hard for bulldozer operators to fullfill all of the demand.

I remember those storms....they are pretty awful, and can make one feel like there is no sunshine ever again. It was 1992, that year, that we made our commitment to leave NY...I wonder why?

I hope it isn't as bad as predicted and please stay safe all of you....I would miss you if your power went out, when will you get to post again? We would all go into withdrawal! Have you back-up batteries for your laptops?
