On Saturday, July 14th, 2007 at 8PM, the Inter-Media Art Center (also known as “IMAC”) in Huntington, Long Island will present an evening with glam rock group New York Dolls.
The New York Dolls created punk rock before there was a term for it. Building on the Rolling Stones’ dirty rock, Mick Jagger’s androgyny, girl group pop, the glam rock of David Bowie and T. Rex, and the Stooges’ anarchic noise, the New York Dolls created a new form of hard rock that presaged both punk rock and heavy metal. Their drug-fueled, shambolic performances influenced a generation of musicians in New York and London, who all went on to form punk bands. And although they self-destructed quickly, the band’s two albums remained two of the most popular cult records in rock & roll history.
The New York Dolls are, simply, the Beatles of attitude. And so we have official studio release One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This, where the New York Dolls’ hallmarks: perfectly mean riffs, deceptively sweet choruses and miles of that infamous attitude meet the 21st century. The New York Dolls are David Johansen (AKA: his famous alter-ego lizard lounge singer “Buster Poindexter”), Sylvain Sylvain, Sammi Yaffa, Steve Conte, Brian Koonin, and Brian Delaney.
Tickets for this performance are $45.00 ($34.00 for IMAC Members). For tickets or further information on this performance, or on other IMAC programs, call IMAC's 24-hour Arts-Line at (631) 549-ARTS. Tickets can also be purchased at the theater from noon to 6PM, Tuesday through Friday, 2PM to 6PM on Saturdays and after 2PM on the day of the performances. For further information, call IMAC's business office at (631) 549-9666.
