  • Suggestions re: Travel to East Coast

My wife and I are booked into a TS at Yarmouth for a week starting 8-31-07.
We have never been to the Northeast and want to spend another week along the coase perhaps around Rhode Island and Maine. Would appreciate some suggestions. Our best flight is Southwest into Providence, RI.

The best fares ($198 RT) is Wednesdays. We thought about 8-27 leave and 9-12 return.

I would do a week on the cape and be sure to go into P town it is worth the ride there. On the way back from P town stop off at the drive in. I would do Newport RI. If you can't book a TS then book a bed and breakfast for a few nights. Be sure to eat at the Newport Rhode Island Inn, Castle Hill Inn and Resort offers lodging in Newport, Rhode Island

While on the Cape please do not miss a visit to Martha's Vineyard.

I would think 2 nights in Newport is enough to see the Mansions and 12 mile drive.

You did not mention visiting Boston there is just so much to do and see there. Museums, Colonial Trail,Theater,Fanueil Hall,The North End and Boston Duck Tours.

Oquniquit,Kennebunk,Camden Maine are beautiful coastal towns on Rt 1 but the Atlantic waters are mighty cold even in early September. Kittery is known for the factory outlets.

Marriott Custom House is the only Boston TS. Cape Cod has the others. InnSeason resort is in Ogunquit.

I have been to each of these areas at least twice some 5 times. I love it there. The maine Lighthouse in York is another spot we like to see. The cliff walk IMO in Maine is better than the cliff walk in RI.

I would do a couple days on the Vineyard or Nantucket and then a couple days in Newport as a finale before heading home from Providence. You can take the people ferry (don't even think of taking your car over to the islands - big bucks, most spots are filled by now - trust me, I used to have a house on Chappy off MV). The Island Queen out of Falmouth or the Steamship Authority out of Woods Hole (Falmouth) or the Ferries out of Hyannis offer good passenger trips. www.mvy.com/gettinghere/ferryschedules.html and Martha's Vineyard Ferry Island Queen | Sail Away to Martha's Vineyard on the Island Queen

I live up here and would be happy to offer advice if you'd like.

Please email me as my PM is overflowing.
