  • New York City -- need a place to stay 6/13

We would like to attend a trade show in New York June 13 -- leaving June 14. All the hotels that are recommended by the trade show are sold out. The show is at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. I'm not familiar with the city at all -- but can anyone recommend a place to stay? I've tried to find a night at the manhattan club without any luck so far. According to my map, it looks pretty close to the convention center.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Debi

The least expensive, as well as among the closest, would probably be the New Yorker. Nothing fancy, but a budget travel place, on 36th and 8th, walking distance to Javits (a long 3 or 4 blocks). I haven't seen the rooms, the lobby and bar are dated, but ok.

If you don't have to be in Jacob Javits to early you can try going to Queens. It will be cheaper and only a train ride away into Penn station.

Can you recommend any places in Queens. I checked the New Yorker -- thank you -- but only their two most expensive rooms are available. One is $400 and one is over $600.

        Thanks,

The New Yorker is NOT worth that, I don't care how nice the room is. Have you tried Priceline?

It's very very easy to get to the Javits center from the NY Waterway ferry in Weehawken, NJ. But I checked the two nice hotels near there (the Homewood Suites in Edgewater, NJ, and the Sheraton Suites in Weehawken, NJ) and they were both sold out for that date. Most of the other hotels around here are pretty bad.

Hi Wacky -- I looked at those two -- I thought it looked like a good option. I was just hoping to get a personal recommendation from someone who'd been/stayed in some of these places. The thought of spending 300/400 for one night -- just to sleep -- is killing me! We'll barely be in the room!

Check BiddingFortravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum, then go to Priceline and stick to Midtown West for proximity to Javits.
