  • New Summer '07 openings in NYC

Summer 2007 Promotional piece from NYC & Co:

    New and Notable

Park Avenue Summer has arrived on the Upper East Side. With white-washed wood and hand-cast tortoise shells, the restaurant's design along with its cuisine transports diners from the urban cityscape to the faraway as they enjoy seasonal dishes and refreshing drinks. Menu highlights include lobster salad with avocado and fennel or grilled filet mignon with raspberries. But don't get too attached—Park Avenue Summer will close its doors in early September and Park Avenue Autumn will be unveiled. Imagine what winter and spring will bring. Also new on the scene is Diane von Furstenberg's flagship store, which makes its home in the Meatpacking District. With mirrored ceilings, sleek lilac floors and pink couches, the boutique's décor is as chic as the clothing it houses. Among the choice apparel is, of course, an extensive selection of wrap dresses, made famous by von Furstenberg herself in 1974.

Times Square welcomes the fascinating and the bizarre with the opening of Ripley's Believe It or Not! Odditorium on 42nd Street. Discover a piece of New York City's history with The Believe It or Not's baseball uniforms—which were worn by such icons as heavy hitter Babe Ruth and boxing champion Jack Dempsey. Or check out locks of Elvis Presley's and George Washington's hair, 24 shrunken heads and a 3,197-lb meteorite that fell to Earth in 1529. The Bronx Zoo, meanwhile, is celebrating the Astor Court Renaissance over two weekends, July 14-15 and July 21-22, with period costume characters and other entertainment to mark the occasion.

There's never been a better time to visit New York. On the hotel scene, the Hilton New York near Rockefeller Center has upgraded its standard guest rooms with flat-screen TVs along with new décor and design furnishings. The New York Marriott East Side in Midtown just completed a top-to-bottom guest-room renovation, now offering plasma-screen TVs, contemporary design and marble bathrooms. Also, one of the city's historic landmark hotels has reclaimed its original circa 1931 name to become the Tudor Hotel at the United Nations. The East Side property—formerly the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the United Nations—was built as part of Tudor City, the apartment complex overlooking the East River that broke new ground in the 1920s as a venture in urban renewal.
