  • Hi from Smuggs

We are staying in a unit in the Commons. I was nervous about the unit quality, since it is in the older section, right near the Village Center, but I can happily report that it has been refurbished and is on par with the Willows units -- not luxurious, but clean and new. Think formica/melamine rather than granite/marble... Country not Tuscany

The unit is townhouse-type, three levels. Kitchen/living/dining/large deck on main floor, with a bedroom/bath/additional living area downstairs (the boys are thrilled to have their own separate space two floors away from me) and two more bedrooms/baths upstairs. AC only in the upstairs bedrooms, but that seems to be par for Smuggs - they claim they are trying to reduce their carbon footprint...

But the weather STINKS. Rainy/damp/chilly. I hope it clears up in the next day or so... otoh, I don't miss the AC on the main floor

I'm jealous and can't wait to get up there myself. (I dream about sitting at one of those little tables outside the Country Store with my cup of coffee and running into everyone I know up there. Simple pleasures....) You should try to drag your sons to Bingo if they will have anything to do with you...we always enjoy that (although I admit that my son doesn't come with us either!).

I hope the weather gets better for you...don't forget about the little farmer's market tomorrow morning!

I will check for the farmer's market. No way the boys will do bingo. I may treat myself to a massage...

Glitter, ask about the waterfall near a country store that I think is near Jay. It was really great. It's not a tourist attraction, more a locals thing. When I asked directions they were amazed I had heard about it.

Sharon do you know the name of the little store/restaurant that makes their own bread and other pastries? That's where we ate breakfast and where I learned to finally enjoy coffee. (I usually hate coffee) I love the Vermont coffee. I can only tell you that you go right out of the parking lot and go to the next little town and it's on the corner. shaggy

Shaggy, I know where the store is, I will stop in. And if the weather clears up, I will ask about the waterfall. Thanks

I love reading these reports from "location" where people have a good time. It's almost like you are taking us with you and our imagination takes over, if no pictures are shown.

Have a great time. What a pity that the weather isn't so good. I hope that it changes soon so you will see the sun as everything looks brighter and it makes you feel better too.

There are two places in Jeffersonville (that next town over) that offer breakfast and also make their own bread: 158 Main (on the right corner) and the Smugglers' Notch Inn (sort of on the left corner). We enjoy both but I think the breakfast at the Inn is particulary good.

A few stores down from 158 Main is a Vermont products store that makes really great maple mustard and some other flavored mustards as well. They also make a champagne fudge that is out of this world, although I have no idea what that particular product has to do with Vermont!

It's 158 Main, the other wasn't there when I was there. Hey, you could always take the ferry over to NY, the one that is right at Ausable Chasm. It is beautiful and the boat ride is great. I didn't get to do it when I was there as I had just had my gallbladder out and wasn't allowed to do anything but ride, watch the leaves change and take pics. Have a wonderful time.

LOL, I know the store with the good coffee and breads - and can't remember the name, either!

There was also a great restaurant where they made bread - we went for dinner twice - XXX Main Street?????

                  Anyway, hope the weather clears

Edited to say I see Sharon answered for me...LOL - I should keep reading down a thread to see if the answers are there.

Avery....I hope the weather clears up for you guys. It's going to be 95 degrees, hot & muggy in NY today, so keep that in mind. I think we're gonna have a heat wave, so it's a good time to be in Vermont.

                    Enjoy!!!

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
