RCi blew our Ocean City, Maryland reservations and we are now booked in Atlantic City. NJ--Hummmmm! We don't drink and we don't gamble so we're looking for day trips we might enjoy. Is anyone familiar with Cape May? Sounds like it could be fun. We do have tickets for the Ghost of the Lighthouse and another for a ghost trolley both in Cape May. Anyone else been to Cape May? Can anyone share restaurants, activities, boat trips, etc?

I stayed in AC about a year ago and did the drive to Cape May. Start out early to beat the traffic. On the way back you can hit an Amusement park like wildwood. There are 2 different amusement parks, We did both. There is also a zoo and aquarium in the area.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

Cape May has over 400 Victorian homes and a pedestrian shopping street; it's a nice little town for walking in. Besides the zoo/aquarium, there's a lighthouse and often some birding events. Many recommended restaurants as well.
If you like seafood, try the Lobster House a bit before you get into town, just over a bridge. For an informal meal, there's a store/take out section and you can eat out back on the dock which is nice.
We've rented a "surrey" bicycle and pedalled around town. Can be fun as long as everyone pedals
You didn't say when you will be there, but if in season, I'd recommend the following for cruises from AC (dolphin watch or other). I did it last month; they guarantee that you will see dolphins and we did. Magical.

Cape May Nj - Fun things to do on vacation.
As for AC, if you are into shopping, they've built outlet stores a couple of blocks from the Boardwalk. I"d also recommend going into the shops at Caesar's Pier -- not necessarily for shopping but for the view and the design of the building. Check out the beach chairs where you can sit and relax, put your feet in the sand and sit with a view of the ocean.
At one end of the Boardwalk, there's also a little museum (free) which has the history of AC, old photos etc. and it's entertaining - and the price is right.
Even though you don't gamble, it's fun to explore the casinos, especially Tropicana's shops/restaurants, Caesar's Palace and Showboat.
Check the Internet for coupons - occasionally they are giving free tickets to shows (like to see Debbie Reynolds last month. And before you laugh, she was a lot of fun for an hour and again -- FREE. Someone paid $40 for a ticket but it wasn't me).

I love Cape May....I also like Wildwood, and Ocean City. They are all within easy driving distance of AC. If you wanted, you could even go to Philly, for the day.
You can google the event calender for all three locations. Have fun!!!!Angela
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Gracias, mahalo and thanks!
WOW! What a wealth of information from you guys! Thanks! Our trip will be much more fun thanks to your time and sharing. (LOL, just realized if you put those two together you get: timesharing!) Cape May is a definite trip, in fact, my daughter and I just made reservations for the dolphin cruise. Since we're going so late in the season, we're lucky to have be able to take advantage of the cruises. Where did you find the free tickets--I'd love to see Debbie Reynolds (or most anyone else <g>) for free, have a niece named after her. I'll be sure to share a trip report when we get back. Just hope we don't freeze--we're sincere weather wimps--anything below 64 is "darned cold"! We're scrounging for coats and long pants. I even have a pair of silk longies I think I'll throw in--BRRRRRRR!

While your at Cape May be sure to see the Ship wreck,. You can eat and shop there as well. The ship is about 40 yards from the shore and you can still see part of the ship.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

Google Atlantic City coupons and see what comes up.
BTW I had gotten $5 off the dolphin cruise too with an online coupon.
I just found this link for a free show at Resorts - click on the link for free $50 tickets and follow the instructions. No gimmick, this is what I did for Debbie Reynolds (she played there for 4 nights in August).
This could be fun and the price is right - free.

I LOVE Cape May. I haven't been in years, but I have been having serious longings to go there, and hope to go next summer.
There is a restaurant there called the Mad Batter that I really like. They are right near the beach, in the Carroll Villa hotel. (I used to stay at that hotel, decades ago, when it was unrenovated and cheap!)

We stopped at Ocean City MD last year. Nice clean area.
Cape May is very nice and the Victorian B & Bs are beautiful. You can rent a surrey to ride around the area. It's been awhile and I don't recall where we ate.

Wildwood was a place we stayed with the kids. It's a boardwalk/beach area and retro 1950's motels. NJ beaches are nice and wide. There was an article about Wildwood that I just read and all the events they hold. Reminds me of vacations with our parents years ago pre timeshare. The old fashioned drive vacations with the kids. If you are in the area it is worth a visit as a comparison.
We also went to Ocean City NJ which is different than OC,MD. 20 minutes from AC.

We prefer beach vacations over Vegas style vacations ourselves. I recall that the drive from Seaview to Wildwood took me through a couple of neighborhoods that were rundown. Maybe parts of Rt 30?
The year we did this I called it the boardwalk vacation summer. Went to OC NJ, Wildwood,Cape May and AC. Wanted to show the boys all the boardwalks and how the areas differ.
Another boardwalk town is Virgina Beach. Hotels are on the boardwalk and you can ride bikes or roller blade at certain hours. A nice wide beach and the stores are across the street not on the boardwalk like the other areas.

A huge thanks to each and everone of you! You've certainly added a lot of fun to our trip! Judy and IreneLF--love your cat photos! We have a half grown kitten found in our son's construction yard (seems people tend to dump cats and dogs there). We're enjoying her greatly. Each of you had great suggestions and I now have quite a file on Atlantic City and Cape May. Our trip will be a lot more fun with all of your suggestions of restaurants, place to go and things to see! As we say around here: Thanks, mahalo and gracias! Your reward: a trip report when we get home. (Sorry, don't gamble so can't treat each of you to a brand new 2008 auto! <g>)

Juleen you're welcome and any questions feel free to email.
Will enjoy reading about your trip and where you went.
As for the cat, she and her brother were just 3; they and their sibs were rescued by someone at 3 days old, brought to a local shelter and fostered by a wonderful woman who bottle fed them until they were 6 weeks old and ready to come home to us Another family took one and she kept the runt who tugged at her heart even though she already has a menagerie.

Did anyone mention my FAVORITE place in South Jersey?
The Official Site of Lucy the Elephant, Margate, NJ
Lucy the Margate Elephant! I think Lucy had a fire last year, but there's no mention of it on the website. Call ahead before you go. Have fun!
The restaurant next door is pretty good, too.
