I LOVE history and my hubby is nice about being drug all over to historical places! Some background: our daughter was born and raised in Arizona but moved to NY State. (Gotta go where hubby finds work!). She is enjoying NY State, lives in a small town in Rockland County. We usually visit them for a week, timeshare somewhere on the east coast for a week and then spend another week or so with them. One day, we took off to see the where the Revolutionary War Stony Creek Battle occured. This battle was the brainchild of George Washington and was put into effect by "Mad" Athony Wayne. The British troops held the Hudson River so a stunning night attack (British were told not to have ammunition in their guns/cannons at night) was a total success. The small museum overlooking the Hudson not only had awesome views but was nicely done. A museum volunteer made the battle come alive for us. We then walked up to the Hudson River lighthouse which was at the same site and to our great surprise and delight a replica of Henry Hudson's ship, Half Moon, was sailing up the river! That was living history at it's best! If you are a history lover and are in that area with a couple of hours to spare, you just might enjoy the visit as much as we did!

Frank the OP refers to Stony Point. It is about 15 minutes north of me. At certain times they do the whole re-enactment of the battle. We have quite the revolutionary history here in tiny Rockland County, NY.
Juleen which town is your daughter in? I would always be willing to meet a fellow TS4Mer when you visit her.Lawren

She lives in Stony Point itself. Having never been east of Nebraska (except for a couple of trips when she was working at her Doctorate at U of Iowa) I truly wasn't sure what to expect. Visions of small houses squished together in NYC flashed through my head! <g> However, the area she's in is truly lovely and she's enjoying living there. Meeting up with you would be fun. I've met several regular poster from the AOL travel boards and enjoyed every one of them. Probably won't be back until next summer. They tend to head home to Arizona during the winter for some strange reason! :O)

Well let's keep that in mind! Unless away in summer because of school schedules I'd be happy to meet!
The only thing that has saved Rockland from overdevlopment and it is much more populated than when we came here 13 years ago is our absolutely abysmal public transportation system to the city.
Stony Point is very nice. I have a good friend who lives up there and has beautiful views of the river.Lawren
