WOW was there a lot of snow!! Almost two feet between yesterday and today -- the kids were riding glades today and ended up waist deep in powder, they said the snow conditions this trip were better than any Northeast trip we've taken, and they absolutely loved the mountain (had never been before).

So it was even worth the horrendous drive home in the storm -- Route 91 was closed, I have a new appreciation for our Garmin, which I used to think was annoying, but we might never have gotten home without it. And in only 7 hours

The funny thing is, I think we'd go back to Dover Watch for skiing, but I recommend it ONLY for location since there is so little available in the area. Oh, and space. The units are very comfortable space-wise. I have never seen a more dated kitchen in a timeshare, I'm talking the original appliances from the 70s, our stove shorted out while I was trying to cook (it "arced" and my H got a nasty shock), which was a challenge even if it was working since two of the knobs on the range had no visible markings left.... there was only one small tv in the unit that the kids couldn't figure out how to use because it had dials on it, old old furniture (some of it vintage danish modern but in need of reupholstering), I could go on.

But the beds were ok, and the bathrooms weren't too gross (except for the rust around the tub, which is a broken jacuzzi bc the "resort" d/n keep them operable any more).

The place is supposedly in litigation with the developer, I don't know the details. But it wouldn't surprise me if the owners will get hit with a big SA if anything ever gets sorted out, and I bet a lot of owners will default (though I'm sure plenty have already, there is one building (4 units) that is completely disused and has "no trespassing" signs posted on it).

Since our stove blew, I was able to arrange for the member using the rest of the week to check into a different unit when he arrives today (I hope he got up there ok). I did check it out, and it was a bit less decrepit than our unit -- the bathrooms had newer toilets and the tiling around the inoperable jacuzzi was in better shape.

All units have fireplaces, and are well heated, and the "resort" manager couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. See, I ended on a positive note

          Glitter,

I glad the kids enjoyed Mount Snow. Bet it was a lot better than Tahoe last year. Lucky you have good conditions. Sometimes it gets very cold there, specially the back side. I have skied there below freezing and -90 with the wind chill. Any more ski trips this year?

We were going to ski a few days in West Virginia last week but had to cancel because some family member decided to visit us. I guess we will not be skiing this year and no plans for next year either.

As for the units, the homeowner association were not going to spent much money because of the litigation with the developer. There are also some tax issues. The developer lost the case either early this year or sometime last year. Unfortunately the developer also took out a loan using some of the unsold units as collateral and that is still being worked out. There has been talks that another developer may be interested in buying the some of the land to build additional units. This developer may spend some money on the existing units. All depends on what they HOA can nogotiate.

Surprisingly there has not be a lot of defaullts yet. But then again there are only 16 units and there not not that many owners. I am sure when they work things out in the next year or two, the owners will be hit with a special assessment to refubish the units.

          Happy New Year!
Tell the family we said hello.

I used to DJ at Mount Snow for the winters. Had my own chalet, on Mt Snow mountain.

Those were the days! Of course, I didn't ski.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

A "friend" owned a house in Rutland and we skiied Mt Snow often. I liked that mountain better than Killington.

Yeah! I have not been back for almost 20 years. Back then we were a bunch of crazy recent college graduates. We would drive 10 to 12 hrs to Vermont on a weekend. Take off Friday afternoon from work, skied hard Sat and Sun and drive all night to go straight to work on Mon morning. Some long weekend, we ski half a day at Jimmey Peak on the way home. We would prefer Killington. The conditions are usually better but is a further drive.

Last run of the day was the craziest. We would race down (under control of course) from top to bottom is less than 8 min without stopping and our legs burning. I almost took someones head off once. Once a beginner was laying down behind a mogul, as I was about to jump, he popped up his head. I came to a full stop and skided within inches from his head. Those days are gone. Now I ski slow and most of the time resting my bad back and my bad knees no longer take the moguls.

When kids came along, we have been skiing in the Poconos. Now that they almost out grow the Poconos, we may get back to Vermont one days.

Glad to hear VT ski conditions are good. DH is going Sun to Wed. Found someone to go with so I can stay home where it is less cold. Going to make a casino visit while he is gone since I did so well last trip.

                      Dav,

Happy New Year to you and yours -- you bet the conditions were a TON better than Tahoe at Easter

Sounds like you are on top of things in the litigation/HOA department. Those units could be great once they get fixed up, and if you are ready to go back to VT for skiing, a SA will still be a lot less $ than buying into the Grand Summit. Dover Watch is a lot closer to the mountain than the Crafts Inn (only 5 miles, but that can be a half hour in ski traffic), and the DW units are much larger (and really in about the same condition, though the appliances at the Crafts Inn are a little more modern). I don't know of any other t/s options nearby.

No, we didn't make it -- it was a ZOO up there, all the restaurants were fully booked, and friends met us up there so trying to coordinate everyone's schedules was hard. And I couldn't log in from the condo and look up your post and I forgot the name, though I'm sure they were full, too. We ate out two nights (one good meal between the two, at the Nutmeg Inn, where we spent our first night, I wouldn't recommend the B & B, but the restaurant was good).

Place is realy known for Breakfast and is on the way there. It is owned by a bunch of fireman but it is so cool inside. sometimes if you time it right you could see them making the maple syrup.

Will try next time -- the kids definitely want to go back. Lawren, they also like it better than Killington, though I was not pleased at the lack of visible ski patrol.
