  • Transportation recomendations for NYC

Thinking of coming to see some of NYC. Might need to take 2 or 3 days.

Would like to drive so as to head on up to Cape Cod and Arcadia Nat’l Park.

Looking for suggestions concerning lodging and good ways to get around the city without paying through the nose for parking.

Are there posts on this subject already?

I am guessing you're planning a summer trip given your other destinations? How many of you are traveling? I can't help with parking other than to suggest leaving your car outside the city if you don't have much luggage -- midtown parking runs $30-$40 a day, more if you're not careful. The $28 charged by the Manhattan Club is beginning to seem like a bargain. Some more residential areas run a little less.

If there are only two of you, I'd go with Priceline, keeping in mind that Sunday nights bring the best deals in the city.

      Thinking mid June for two.
If we stay outside the city, what trouble is there for transportation within? Would it be train and then subway? Is that worthwhile compared to booking in, close to subway?

I realize - "no free ride".
We'd probably pay rather than put up with lots of hastle.

If outside the city, then most likely a train in and a subway from there, depending on where you leave the car. I usually end up driving despite the fact that I live close to a train line; though many prefer the train to the traffic. You won't want to use your car once you get into town, public transportation (subway, bus) will get you most places, and taxis are available otherwise. Driving in the city is not for the faint of heart.
