    September 1981 Central Park

The Concert in Central Park is a live album by Simon and Garfunkel. On September 19, 1981 the folk-rock duo reunited for a free concert on the Great Lawn of New York's Central Park attended by more than 500,000 people.

just happened to catch this song on the car radio this morning.

YouTube - Simon & Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson

Was a great evening. Half a million people all having a good time. No problems. A truly memorable concert.

I was there somewhere in the park. Did not see a thing but I heard the music. I remember Mayor Ed Koch make the introduction.

Memorable to you, perhaps, though I know I was there

I was just a lass in school then (okay, college )...but do you remember the Diana Ross concert in the park where it began to rain BUCKETS just as the concert started? I lived just off the park on West 82nd St. then and I remember THOUSANDS of people pouring out of the park, running like maniacs. My roommate and I hung out the window watching....

WOW.... What a blast from the past...

That was the last night I spent in NYC as a summer intern on the NYSE and the night I said goodbye to the girl I almost (should have) married.. She was a sexy Brooklyn born, blue eyed Italian living with her older sister and brother in law in a co-op on Mercer St. I was a 21 year old wild ass kid from Houston, billeted into a corporate housing apt. (glorified broom closet) on W. 21st. She was interning in the investment banking department at Merrill, I was interning on the exchange floor as a clerk. We met in May, in the human resources lobby waiting to get ID cards on our first day. We went out that night and she took me on a tour of the Village that lasted all night. By sunrise we were in love. That was "first date of the century". It wasn't over until we walked into separate orientation training classes at 7:30am wearing the same clothes from the day before and from then on, except for working hours and the very little sleep we got that summer (all very innocent, as she was of the highest moral character) we were together every minute. That was the best summer of my life..

She had one more semester at NYU and I had one more at UT. The bittersweet goodbye came that night in the Park during that concert. I flew back to Texas the next morning and the rest, as they say, is history.

Although the promises of "forever" didn't pan out, we're still very close friends living on opposite sides of the planet. That girl was and is, one in a million.. Thanks for the stroll down "Memory Lane"!

Wow LongTee that is some story. Funny how a simple post can bring the memories whirling back. The power of music.

Well... A couple of things happened.. 1. I had the attention span of a puppy and when I got back to Texas (before cell phones, text messages, free long distance, email or the internet to keep her close) by midterms, stress, boredom, culture shock and Tequila shots converged into the perfect storm and made "land fall" at a bar on 6th Street with a PKA little sister. Another "one in a million".. This one was a strawberry blonde from the Dallas burbs, who's shortfall in moral fiber and intellectual aptitude was overwhelmingly counterbalanced by her sympathetic, nurturing spirit and profoundly persuasive physical exuberance…

Before I knew what was happening, Señor Pépe was driving the bus with little regard for covering it's tracks.. An inconsistency here, an awkward silence there and before Christmas, I’d been busted. Miss NYC was compassionate, understanding and firm in her assertion that she would forever be my friend, however equally firm in her assertion that my lack of willpower precluded the possibility any future romantic possibilities.. (the business end of the aforementioned high moral character).

We laugh about it now, but there were dark days, such as the one when I walked in on Strawberry Blonde exuberantly nurturing someone else.. Miss NYC talked me through it with grace, compassion, humor and understanding, as she did through many a self inflicted adversity over the years..

She finally married the next guy she fell for, who is really the one who was meant for her anyway. The following spring, she was in the Amazon jungle on her graduation trip and she met a young French scientist there. He asked her to marry him in less than a month. She went back to NYC and enrolled in Columbia University for an anthropology degree. She completely changed her field and went to work side by side with him, giving him 20 years to take back his proposal before she finally said “Yes”.. They got married in 2001 and split their time NYC, Europe and South America.

Regrets? I’ve had a few, but then again, too few to mention.. I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption..

Come on y’all, sing with me!

I don't do Frank Sinatra. and couldn't we all play the game of "What If"?

Here is a Midge Ure tune titled NO REGRETS for you

YouTube - Midge Ure - No Regrets

                              youtube didn't have Billie Holiday.

Your's is a beautiful memory to take out of a box and treasure now and again.
