We'll be staying in Newport, RI in October 2009 (already have the exchange starting October 3). We plan to spend a few days in Boston either at the end or beginning of our trip but need ideas for a second timeshare week. Possibilities: Harbor Ridge, Acadia, Trapp Family Lodge, or something in Lincoln, NH. I have a week to trade thru II. Purpose of the trip is to use the TS as the base for day trips to see as much as possible and do some leaf peepin'. TIA

The cape is a chip shot from Newport-around 100 miles more or less. New Hampshire's White Mountains is a bit further and Acadia National Park is closer to 300 miles or more away. Leaf peeping will be possible- but who knows when. If you are going to NH try for the week before (the attractions may closer earlier there). We were at Harbor Ridge last year from Oct. 6-13 and things were still going and the weather was nice too- if you decide to go with Maine, you should also consider Acadia Village Resort (not 5*-but about as nice).
If you need advice as to where to stay-I can help with some of the NH resorts here or by PM. If I had a choice of all of them- I would pick Pollard Brook or South Mountain, but there are some others that are nice enough.

The weather should be good unless a hurricane zips up the coast. Timeshares are somewhat of a question mark. I have only stayed at two:the Cove and it was just OK-nice location but not on the shore, Riverview- when it was being rebuilt as a timeshare-similar location with a river behind the resort that goes to the shore. Looked pretty nice but that was many moons ago.

If you are thinking the Cape, then you may also want to think the Berkshires. The leaf peeping would be better, whale watching not so good.
Cape Cod Holiday Estates gets II's best rating, Brewster Green and Captain's Quarters next best. I don't see anything for late October, though.
In the Berkshires, the Ponds at Foxhollow gets the next best rating and Oak N Spruce Resort is unrated.

Thanks for all your help. I've put in a request for Acadia Village & Harbor Resort for October 10-17. There is availability at Acadia for 9/26-10/3, but I thought that would be a tad early for leaf peepin'. After looking at pictures & hiking trails for Acadia National Park, I decided that this would be the place. Our goal is to visit as many National Parks as possible, and we've been to a lot of them in the Western U.S.
