  • Best Knishes In NYC?

OK, last time I went on a bagel hunt, and determined that my favorite bagels in NYC are H & H Bagels. This time, I think it's a knish hunt.

I know that Yonah Schimmel's is often listed as the best Knish in the city, but I've tried it, and it's not that good. Wrapper is soggy, potato is not particularly well-seasoned. I like their Broccoli Knishes, and their Noodle Kugel, but I must go elsewhere to find the real best in the city.

I have been told that Knish Nosh in Queen's used to be the best, but it has deteriorated. I like a crisp crust, and a flavorful knish that is not microwaved. Anybody have any suggestions?

Along those lines, I have heard that Joe's Shanghai makes a great Xiao Long Bao, but I'm always open for other chinese food suggestions.

Remember that we will be traveling by subway and walking to most places. . .

The best knish in the city is in Forest Hills Queens. Knish Knosh. An institution that has been around at least as long as I've been alive. Last I had them about 6 months ago they were as good as ever. Right off the N train at 67th AVE.
I am trying to think of the Dim Sum place over on the Bowery. 4 stories. Charge by the shape of the plates when you are done.

A favorite dim sum on East Broadway/Catherine St. that is also several stories high is Golden Unicorn.

As for knishes, besides Yonah S's, and Knish Nosh, some love

If you're into exploring the outer boroughs, this could be fun. Once here you're near the beach/boardwalk and also a Russian neighborhood with restaurants and stores under the El.

We had a Knish the last time we were at Ben's, and it was very, very good. I think I would like to try Knish Nosh, because I've never tried it before. Right now, our schedule is tentatively: Sat night, arrive, go to street festival in the Village, followed by dancing at Cafe Wha?; Sun., meet Roadsister in the morning, then Young's friends in the afternoon and check out some of the museums; Mon. walking tour of the Village in the day, Altar Boyz and House Party at Birdland in the evening; Tues-Thurs. day - open (probably at least one day in the galleries, one in the museums); Thurs. night November; Fri. open; Sat. leave.

So, we're pretty open for most of the week. Let me know when you have some free time, and we'll get together over in Queens again (and you can meet Young). Also, I would need directions on how to get to Knish Nosh.

I just saw Boeing, Boeing and it was VERY funny - so if u need a laugh...could have seen November but had already purchased tickets for Rent - one last chance to see it but they have now extended to Sept 1 - however, Tamayra(sp) Gray from American Idol is playing Mimi and was FANTASTIC...so hopefully I will see November on another trip in.

I could do a little exploring of the boroughs -- I know that Brooklyn can be spotty, but as long as the walk there from the subway is safe, I'm game. I don't know how much dim sum we'll do -- we just got back from Hong Kong last week, and had quite a bit there. But I always like Wo Hop's, and we fell in love with Xiao Long Bao in Hong Kong. We also just went to Empress Garden in LA for dim sum yesterday. Young and I both like Chinese food, so I know I can get her to another place, though I don't know if she'll go for dim sum. If I can convince Young for another dim sum, we might try Golden Unicorn

They are saying that November pretty much has a "Best Musical" slot at the 2008 Tonys (other possibilities are Young Frankenstein, Xanadu, In the Heights, Passing Strange and A Catered Affair). I almost went to see August: Osage County, because they are saying that that is the one to beat for best Play, but I don't think I'll be in the mood for a drama.

I've seen Rent enough already. Never really thrilled with it, though I did enjoy it the first three times I saw it.

Right now, it's May 6-7, May 8 daytime only, and May 9. We're flexible and can schedule anything during those days.

By the way, I am absolutely convinced that it was Elliott Gould sitting next to us at Ben's last time.

I am at Cigarfest at Splitrock resort on may 2nd but am not staying all week. Lets make plans for the 8th or 9th for lunch. Now if you want to go out at night for Wings I got a great place for Wings.
