Looking for good Xmas locations in driving distance of New York
But the mansions are all decorated and open for touring then. From what I have heard they are GORGEOUS!
Tough trade on my side of the fence.
Yeah, it's a tough trade in II, as well. I'm not sure that the kids would be into the mansions, anyway. I'd love it, but I'm probably the only one in the group that would.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
Lawren, the Marriott Fairway is the 'destination' - really nice spa that u can use for free when staying at the Villas - girls would LOVE lounging around and using the products, etc.
It is fun to walk around the casino hotels that will be all decorated for Christmas.
Really nice dinning options at the AC Casino Hotels....
That Smithville area will also be decorated...with Christmas activities.
Not everyone in my group will be staying all week either....people will come and go - that is sort of the beauty of it.
And pretty much anywhere you go within driving distance of NYC is going to be cold - nothing we can do about that.
I went to Newport this past November and it was great. Since it's the off-season the prices come down on most places, which is nice. (There are lots of B&Bs to stay at.) The mansions weren't decorated for Christmas yet at that time, but they were still amazing to see. It was kind of chilly, but it felt appropriate for New England! That made it even more charming IMO. There were lots of galleries to browse and antique shops. I didn't see too much to do for kids, however. I think the adults would love it.
We spent New Year's at the NJ Marriott and had a great time. I spent lots of time in the Spa, we shopped in AC, the toured Cape May...it was a really good time.
This year we are going to try Williamsburg. If any others will be there we can have a get-together.
Well Angela, my family is going to Mar Fairway Villas the day after Christmas - we have 3 units for 16+ peeps - and my friend who was tossing around where to go/ what to do decided to get 2 units for her family.
This is a definite change in what ALL of us would have done past years but with the current situation with airfare costs and the increasing CHALLENGE of flying in general, we all just decided to go local.
I know u usually go there in the summer....
The other area would be Williamsburg - think shopping and great stuff at Colonial W - but don't know if the young adults would find that very exciting.
Marriott Custom House - GREAT location with LOTS to do for the young people....but u would need 2 units
I would think that Cape May would also be decorated very nice...all those old Victorian homes and cobblestone streets.
Yup...Cape May is a beautiful town, and I love visiting there. Of course, I love their beach, and it will be too cold in Dec. Hopefully, it won't be too cold to walk around. We can always take the tour bus of the town, which would limit the time we spend outdoors.
Pat, maybe your guest would enjoy the tour of Cape May. It's not too long, and inexpensive.

Good to know that you enjoyed yourself, in spite of the cold. Let us know how you liked Williamsburg. We might need another location for next year, if this goes well.

I love Boston anytime of the year. Plenty of things for the young people to do. For instance, Blue Man Group (1/2 price tickets always available) followed by or preceded by a meal in China Town, a few blocks away.

I agree, and Boston is still on the table. I would need 3 rooms, tho. That makes it harder, but you never know. I have two weeks that I'm willing to put in a request with, but don't want to give up a 3rd week.
They are all beach weeks. We'll see what happens. I think it's down to Boston, or AC.
BTW...The kids had a slight interest in the Poconos, because of the ice skating, snow boarding, bowling, movie theater, etc. But I looked on Tripadvisor, and was horrified by he reviews of Split Rock, Willowbrook & Shawnee Village.
I know that the Tripadvisor group can be tough, but the reviews were really, really, bad. Their bottom line......A dump!
