Today was absolutely gorgeous and being Thursday Los Tres Amigas y Sus Caballos went out for a ride at the Preserve.
We almost always see something new. And the old things are fun too. Turtles and deer, cardinals, today we saw the NY State bird which is pretty rare, some orioles and a gorgeous hawk.
The hawk is the one I have a question about. I see red tails all the time but this was much too big to be one of those. It was perched up on a dead tree in the forest but I would have to guess at about 2 feet tall. It had a fawny gold chest and belly with darker gold splotches and was well red tail hawk colored for the rest.
I think it was a red shouldered hawk:
