Quite a number of European resorts have extra fees, some are reasonable, some are not. We were earlier considering a resort in the South of France (Marina Baie des Anges, if I remember correctly), but found that the mandatory fees charged for linen & towels (!!), cleaning & electricity etc plus our exchange fees added up to more than the cost of renting it directly, so we passed it up. I think a number of Scottish resorts charge for electricity used.

I just looked at my online confirmation and they changed mine too for later this month. What kills me is RCI sent a letter saying it really wasn't a one bedroom and is only a studio and I could cancel for no charge but never mentioned they have added fees. It doesn't seem like they should be able to change the fees after the exchange is confirmed. I don't mind paying if that's what I agreed to when I confirmed> For example, when I agreed to pay utilities in UK exchanges but I do when it's tacked on and changed without warning after the fact. Bootleg do we have any recourse with RCI or MC since our original confirmations say something different then the altered online one?

Avery, thank you for the business center information!
My MC stay is 3/10-3/17, so it looks like I don't have to pay the charge. Still, I feel quite ticked off on behalf of folks here who are staying later on.
I find it very hard to believe that it is legal for the MC to add a $175 week charge after the week has been confirmed. NYC is one of the most regulated places in the world. I'll bet somewhere NYC has a law saying that the price of lodgings can't be changed after the reservation has been confirmed. Also, shouldn't RCI have a rule saying that resorts can't add fees after a week has been confirmed? There has to be some way to fight this.
The issue here isn't that the resort wants to charge mandatory fees. It's that the resort wants to charge fees that didn't exist at the time of confirmation.

For 1 night I would fight it. I do not think they will give you a problem for the 1 night.
If anyone has an old confirmation that does not list the fees. Hold on to it. Check in with it and fight so the extra fee charges do not get charged. If they charge you pay by Amex and dispute the charges. Keep the original confirmation for proof that you were not notified at the time of booking.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

I don't like additional fees charged by resorts to exchangers, and won't stay anywhere where they do. I'm not crazy about RCI but this is not their fault, it's the resort.
I also don't feel they should be able to charge those who confirmed their exchanges before the charge went into effect. If they are going to start such charges, the policy should be effective for confirmations made after xxx date, not occupancy after xxx date.
For those of you who have confirmations not listing the charge, I wouldn't pay it period, end of discussion. Does the confirmation state a a credit card is required upon check in? If not, then I don't see what they can do.

RCI should have to eat this fee for everyone who has confirmed prior to that date, even if they are going to MC after that date. And RCI should be sending out email notices to all their dues-paying members about this, as it's a very popular "resort". Why doesn't RCI send such email updates about resorts in their directory when something like this happens? Why is it that Boot has to tell the select few who happen to be on t/s forums and sites? RCI sure isn't shy about sending numerous *marketing* emails...why not some actual customer service for a change?
Anyway, I have an exchange in August and it's just me going and I sure don't have a spare 25 bucks to spend per day just for the "privilege" of someone making my bed. That kitchen btw has so few amenities that they shouldn't even consider it a kitchen. JMHO of course."Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed and those who are cold and are not clothed."

This should not be allowed. My original certs have no fee but they changed the on-line confirmation. Is that legal?"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed and those who are cold and are not clothed."
