  • The musical (Hairspray) NY NY

We went to where the musical Hairspray was performing at 4pm and put our names in the lottery for tickets. There are 24 seats they lottery off every night. They only let you put your name in for up to two tickets. So they only call out 12 names. Josie put her name in for 2 tickets and I put my name in for 2 tickets. The 4th name they called was mine. Then the 10th name they called was Josie. She declined the tickets to let the next person behind her have the tickets. The tickets sold for $25.00 a ticket. We were sitting front row dead center at the musical (Hairspray). What a great show.

Were there a lot of people doing this? Did you try to get rush tickets for any other plays?
We have tickets for Rent and Lestat but would like to get others.

Most theaters have a lottery to fill any unsold or unaccounted for tickets. You just have to check the time each one does it. The theater that was showing Hairspray started calling names around 4:30. They allowed you to put your name on the lottery at 4:00. The theater that we went to actually holds the front row open specifically for this. We were told that if you check the paper then you will see the listing for the show with an RO in the listing then those are one of the shows that hold a lottery.
