Villa Roma - What not to miss...

Grabbed a Fall VR week (probably only use one long weekend) and not alot of time to research the area....

I would greatly appreciate the not to miss items or even what to expect....

Never been there and am trying to find a local (PA,NY,NJ) place for quick getaways... so this is an exploratory trip for future quick trades...

Any info about what to see/skip, which buildings to request/avoid, area restaurants, eating at the resort, activities to do/avoid.... any info you can add...

everything is at the resort, not much going on in the area unless you drive at least 20 miles out. Montecello rceway is about 30 miles away. Be sure to go to any night club shows they have going on. It should be a Nice weekend get away. Enjoy!

Peter you will drive through Roscoe, NY on your way.

The Roscoe Diner is right off route 17. Very good food.

Roscoe is also the Trout Fishing Capital of at least NY and possibly the northeast. So if you enjoy that it is certainly a suggestion.

The Roscoe Diner was a stopping point on the way from LI to SUNY Cortland way back when I was a student.

I heard Jeffersonville is about 3 miles away and has some shops and restaurants... also Callicoon...

We were thinking about crawling up the Delaware on route 97... a scenic route with alot of winding roads... adds about an hour but probably more relaxing...

Opinions of these towns or this route?

The town of Bethel isn't too far (at least I don't think so, I drove through Monticello and Bethel on my way home from DS' camp this summer). That's where Woodstock really was. Not much going on there usually, but they have nice concerts and festivals. Richie Havens is playing on 9/20.

It is about 15 miles from there, Really Not much there , Woodstock is actually conected to my Cousins backyard property, I believe there is a a go cart place in the area for the kids on 17a.

I agree there isn't anything to do there, unless there's an event at Bethel Woods.

The Roscoe Diner is forever

We revisited our youth with a stop at the Roscoe Diner in July. Food is still great. Hubby used to drive up with "the guys" on the weekends during their heyday (1964-1966). Can't believe it's still going strong.

Bethel Woods is having Harvest Festivals Sundays through October so that will be happening.

The Bethel Woods 60s Museum looks interesting.

We are looking toward Roscoe on either the trip up or back.

With all the mountains, does anyone know how the cellular service is at VR?
(Bentley Brook resort in the Berkshires was in a valley with mountains around it and no coverage)

We were there for a weekend getaway many years ago. We spent an afternoon in one of the nearby Towns. I think it was Callicoon but not sure, but it was very close to Villa Roma and had several very nice antique shops where we made a few purchases.

We really enjoyed just walking around the town and also stopping in to a nice old fashioned ice cream store. This was more than ten years ago so that's about all I remember. When we were there they had some really good entertainment at the hotel but I'm not sure if it ever re-opened after the kitchen fire several years ago. Without the connected hotel I don't think I would go back.

I had a few timeshares there and would reccomend going there only in the summer time. Plenty of other areas to visit with more going on

In the Summer there are a few large pools all in the same area, The kids have a lot to do. In the fall the leaf colors are great to see. There are nightly shows in the lounge. The comedy shows were funny when I was there. There is also a band and DJ so you can dance. They have a few restaurants and I believe you might be able to take a meal plan. I have Friends who go every year on there same week and they meet the same friends every year. They have a ball with there group.
