  • Oceancliff I and II, Newport?

Anyone been recently? Tripadvisor reviews are for hotel, not timeshare. Reviews OY are old and bad, except for one note about recent refurb, posted by an owner... location/property look good.

I got a match for Labor Day next year, keep or toss? It's only a one bedroom, so it's gotta be pretty great for me to keep it... though I know in Newport I probably can't get too picky...

Which resorts should I hold out for if I toss this?

Have not stayed there but when we go there for "Christmas in Newport" during December the ballroom there at the hotel is one of the venues for a concert. We were told that the TS's were being refurbished, the buildings and grounds are very nice looking and the location is very nice also, right on the ocean. It is however, a couple of miles out of Newport on Ocean Drive area. There isn't much there so need to drive in to Newport for restaurants, etc. If you can get one of the Wyndhams especially the On Shore, they have excellent locations downtown Newport right on the waterfront. We have stayed at "On Shore" a couple of times and really like it there.
From downtown places you need to drive to get to beaches.

Just got Sept/Oct issue of Time Sharing Today and there is a short short letter to editor from the manager of Oceancliff stating that they have just completed a $3.8 million renovation of the 44 TS units there.

Thanks, Ken. I called up there and they confirmed that all units have been refurbished. The unit on hold is a bi-level unit w/2 baths (the second bath goes a long way toward making up the lack of 2d bedroom) and a balcony with water view (they said all units have a water view). Now if I can just overcome the lack of Wifi, it's a keeper...

eta: I just heard back from VRI central reservations, they say that "wireless teleconnect" is available for $25 for the week.... anyone know if that means high speed? I'm wondering if that's the same thing they had at Gurney's this summer...

and again: I confirmed, didn't want to risk losing it worrying about what "wireless teleconnect" is, but I am willing to gamble on it being high speed since they are charging for it. If not Wifi, we should be able to at least take the long holiday weekend unplugged.

        Woohoo, Newport next summer
