  • Mtn Estates at Smugglers Notch

What can anybody tell me about them? Are they nicer than regular Smugglers Notch? What will be going on there over Thanksgiving? Will appreciate any info.

My son and family booked an exchange and just curious. Unfortunately, we won't be joining them.

    Thanks,
    Nancy

I expect it'll be pretty quiet, past fall and early for skiing -- check their website or call

Winter Vacations at Smugglers' Notch Vermont

The Mountain Estates are the newest addition, units are supposed to be the nicest up there, and I believe they have their own recreation/pool complex, but again I'm not sure what'll be going on over Thanksgiving. Last year Vermont got lucky with early snow and my gang was on the slopes over Thanksgiving.

Smuggs puts you in the unit on your confirmation, so if you can get the unit number, we can confirm its location. I'm pretty sure the Mountain Estates section includes West Hill, North Hill and Highlands Hill. "These well appointed homes offer exclusive use of special amenities within their neighborhood, such as exercise facilities, indoor or outdoor pools, playgrounds, game rooms, hot tubs, a whirlpool in the master bath, plus broadband internet access for a nominal fee."

He says confirmation says FA5. Do you know where, what that is?

      Thanks,
      Nancy

ps. We'd already been to website and know it won't be very active. Is there a restaurant onsite that will be open?

FA should be the Falcons. It's in the West Hills section, you can find the floorplans/map on the website. They should call to see which restaurant(s) may be open. There is also a nice restaurant across the road from Smuggs, but I forget the name, sorry.

          Thanks

Thanks Glitter. Anybody else have any words of wisdom they'd like to add.

ps. I'm jealous because I think this is a great trade. They have a 3 bedroom, sleeps 10.

Should be a nice unit, way up the mountain with great views (depending on which direction they face- can be spectacular.)
Don't know much about November and what goes on, except that it is COLD.

The Falcons building has a hot tub right outside the building - but of course this may be closed due to weather. (spectacular view from tub)
Building is above 3 buildings called Sycamores, and they all share a large exercise center, with changing faicilities, sauna/steam room and outdoor pool. Exercise center will be open, again not sure what they do with this pool in cold weather, ie whether it is open and heated -- .
One main pool down the hill in the main part of Smugglers should be definitely open, bubbled over.
Restaurant across the street is Stella Note, Italian and pricey. Haven't eaten there. In town (Jeffersonville, about 10 minutes) a good choice is 158 Main Street and their upstairs Jeffersonville Pizza Dept..
Also close to Hanley's grocery store where they can buy pretty much anything at better prices than Smugglers' own store.

We really enjoyed 158 Main - ate there twice...I am soooo jealous of the nice unit they received - because there are definitely older, dated areas of this resort.....we drove up to this newer section and the units are spectacular and had a lovely 'recreational area' with indoor pool as Irene stated.

The surrounding towns are lovely....I know they will enjoy their stay.

Just to clarify - Pat's comment -- this is a newer section and all will be lovely, but it is not the newest section with the shallow indoor pool.
(That area is known as North Hill, it will make sense when they see the map at checkin.)
The area of the Falcons unit where your family will be is in West Hill, with its own separate entrance back out on Mountain Rd for the 4 buildings that make up West Hill. The pool is outdoors, down the mountain a bit and am not sure if heated/open in Nov, and the hot tub is outside the building your family will be in.
The units are fractional ownership (2 or 3 families own the unit) rather than straight timeshare of 24 owners so this building qualifies for the Mountain Estates designation and separate RCI code, and the other 3 buildings that make up West Hill would not.

I knew our trusty experts would be along

Sounds like a great exchange, Nancy, and with three bedrooms, you should go!

We have friends who own Falcons 8 and I emailed to ask if they've been there during that week, and anything in general they might want to add.
I'll get back to you Nancy.

                      (and thanks Pat

Thanks for the responses. I wish I was going with them, but DH says "NO". I know they will enjoy it.

I am a Falcons owner and have been at Smuggs for Thanksgiving. In fact, we went to Smuggs most Thanksgivings when we lived in New Jersey. We stopped going during Thanksgiving when we moved to Georgia about four years ago.

Falcons weeks are Friday to Friday. Most of the Thanksgiving activities occur on Thanksgiving weekend so there are limited activities (including the Fun Zone, which is great for kids) from Thursday to Sunday. There is usually very limited skiing available starting on Friday after Thanksgiving (one run top to bottom on Sterling). There should be a nice Thanksgiving buffet at the Morse Mountain Grill.

If the reservation is Friday to Friday and includes Thanksgiving, there will be limited or no activities before Thanksgiving day. The West Hill community center will be open and the pool will be heated. If there is snow on the ground, you can bring a sled and should have no trouble finding a decent hill to make your own runs. There should be some tubing by Smuggs available duiring the weekend. We usually exchanged a Falcons week for a Sunday to Sunday week and would stay from Wednesday to Sunday to get the most out of the weekend.

Interesting enough, most of the "timeshare" units (i.e., club homes) will be filled with owners or exchangers. The fractionals (including Falcons) and whole owned units will be relatively empty as there will be very few renters.

My memory is not as great as it used to be so hopefully I have not mixed anything up with something else.

I hope your family has a great trip.
