  • First snow storm of the season

predicted to begin tomorrow. We have been lucky so far. Up north has had an ice storm and long island had snow this week. Eventually something is going to get over the little Ramapo Mountains and whomp us here in the lower Hudson Valley.

I find it horribly depressing to see that 4 letter word in every day's forecast for a week.

    Thursday, December 18, 2008

Today: Mostly sunny and cool. High: 38-43.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy and cold; snow developing around daybreak. Low: 22-27.

Friday: Snow likely, heavy at times in the late morning and early afternoon. Accomodations 2"-4" except 4"-7" from route 202 north and west. Snow mixing with sleet and rain in the afternoon. High: 30-35.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy and cold with a few snow showers. Low: 20-25.

Saturday: Partly sunny, breezy and cold. High: 35-40.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy; snow likely in the afternoon. High: 25-30.

Monday: A few snow showers early in the morning, then partly sunny, windy and cold. High: 27-32.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, breezy and cold. High: 28-33.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy and cold with the chance of snow. High: 30-35.

I hate the winter, and I hate the cold. But when it snows I find it helps me hate it less. Maybe because my kids enjoy it so much, I'm not sure. And things are pretty in the snow (at least until it's been sitting around for a while).

My kids are doing the jig over the forecast, as each snowfall makes their upcoming trip to VT more promising... and DS is going on a day trip this Sunday, so he's really psyched...

Still, you know I'd rather be on a beach somewhere...

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

We have had a rough winter here so far. We actually had about four days of rain and it snowed in the mountains. Temps almost went into the 30's last night. It is really beautiful today with the sun finally out and we can see the snow in the mountains. A sort of white Christmas here. It is bad enough that we gotta get out of here.

Try being without power for four days. Some people still have no power and this is day seven.

Crying about snow is a bit like crying when you learned there isn't a Santa Claus.

since I don't have to travel anywhere...I can't wait!! I love to watch it snow knowing I have nowhere to go. It's so pretty and quiet when it's snowing..

I guess my measly 6" of snow in Henderson, NV isn't much to you guys. I took some pictures, which you can see here. Its the most snow the Henderson/Las Vegas area has had in 29 years.

They say 6" or more here tomorrow. Took a trip a few miles west of here where there was an extended power outage- amazing destruction and they are still cleaning up. What a difference a few miles made.

I don't mind the snow (and here in Colorado we get plenty of it!). But I am extremely thankful we rarely get the ice storms / freezing rain that you seem to get back east. After seeing pictures of the recent storm you had, my heart goes out to everyone affected. I'd take a good 2-foot snow storm over an ice storm any day!

Being without Power really sucks. We were without it for 4 days a few years back during a summer storm. Good Luck to all those in the Northeast. I'll try not to complain about our -30 windchills!

It is to me, Fern. We had nearly 18 inches here in the High Desert (Calif) Kids got Winter break 2 days early.

I do understand it must get old for those that deal with it every winter-but for us-it's been fun-today is sunny and that snow is blindly white-simply beautiful.

I'll send you both some. I'm sure I'll have plenty to spare.

I wasn't this much of a curmudgeon about it until I had to hang up my skis. Now I just can't stand the stuff.

                          losing power

We were without power for a couple of days a few years back. I went out and purchased a generator that kicks on automatically after that. Last year the whole block lost power during the Superbowl. I didn't miss any of the game.

Fern, It might not be much to us here in the Northeast, but, I heard that LV only has 2 plows, that much snow must cause some havic in that case.
