  • Broadway show for teen

DD and I will be in NYC for spring break. She is 15 years old and loves musicals. She has seen Wicked, Phantom, Spamalot, Momma Mia, Cats, Lion King, and Rent (lucky girl, huh?). Any suggestions that would be age appropriate, and that she has not yet seen?

Shrek the Musical, West Side Story or Blithe something? with the lady from Murder She Wrote were recommended from a freind that just got back.

My daughter will be 15 in a couple of months and also loves musicals. We've also seen the shows you mentioned above, and some others. My daughter's all time favorite is still Mamma Mia.

would recommend In the Heights...which is fabulous. We are seeing Guys and Dolls next month, but I've already heard the first act moves a little slowly. We also recently saw Billy Elliott, which was not as good as what we had expected given its success in London. Haven't seen West Side Story yet, but have high hopes for it!

P.S. Wait...has your daughter not seen Mary Poppins yet? Amazing show...you may want to consider it!

I second the motion for In the Heights.

Well, I saw In the Heights without her a couple of months ago; loved it, and wouldn't mind at all seeing it again. I associate Shrek and Mary Poppins with younger kids, but maybe the musicals are oriented toward an older audience? Sharon, I was considering Billy Elliott. What was disappointing about it?

My 18 yo just (and I mean just as in today) saw Billy Elliott in London. She loved it.

Billy Elliott is about the only show on Broadway right now that doesn't offer discounted seats.

HAIR is in previews right now; the production played last summer in Central Park to fabulous reviews, hence the move to Broadway.

I saw that in Hollywood years ago. It all depends on how open minded you and your teen are if they still have the full nudity.

Nope, I am not that open-minded. I think the nudity would embarrass/disturb her.

                      In the Heights 40% off

In the Heights it is. I used a Travelzoo code TZOO33 and orchestra seats were $72 each. Row D on the aisle! I really don't mind seeing this play again. We will try for 1/2 price tix one other day, looking for the other musicals recommended here. Thanks, and hope someone can use this discount code.

I saw the 999th performance of Hair when it was first on Broadway. At that time they lit the stage so dimly one could not tell whether the actor was really nude or not. Times have changed and the lighting may have been turned up by now.
