  • Advice re tipping at Manhattan Club

Hi, a bit of advice needed as I'm sure you know that the customs regarding tipping are very different between Europe and the US.

As we'll be paying a $25 per day hospitality charge at the MH is it still customary to tip the cleaning staff? If so, how much?

Also, who else should I tip and how much?

    Thanks
    Sue

Force payment equals no voluntary "donations"

It may not be politically correct but my tipping of MC employees ended when the unfair fee for trades was imposed. Let them get it from management! (Yeah, right). Same for Hawaii. Imposed fees I can't control mean I end the voluntary ones I can. Maybe the workers impacted will get the message through to management. I can only hope.

$2 per day if in a studio and $3 in a one bedroom two bath, $25 dollars hosptality service goes to TMC,not the maids
the only other persons to tip is the bell guys that bring your luggage to your room if you use them,$1 for each piece, and if you use the concierge and they come thru for you, Oscar a bellhop is great, Have fun,
P.S. when will you be there, I am there from time to time

I used to tip about $5/day for housekeeping, left in one sum at the end of my stay. With the imposition of the "Hospitality Fee," which the MC clearly stated at the time included the daily cleaning service, I started leaving about half, with a note to the housekeeping staff explaining the reason for the reduction, along with my apologies.

I know the staff doesn't see any of the "fee," so I still want to leave them something.

I think the "going rate" for bags is up to at least $2 per bag. I also tip the valet if I use the car service, each time they retrieve the car, either $1 or $2 depending on how long I've been made to wait...

We arrive late on 3rd April for one week. Keeping my eye on the other thread about a get-together though nothing seems to have been finalised yet.
