Well, my annual trip to New York is getting close. In fact, there will be at least five, maybe six of us at the Affinia Dumont and at the Hilton from May 13-20. Since I've been going once or twice a year for the past few years, I have an idea of what to do, where to eat, what to see while I'm there. But I'm always open to new things and new ideas. So, what's up over there that you would say was new, exciting, and really worth doing?

The Munch exhibit is at MOMA on 53rd st. not MET. (on 5th and 80th) just so you know. It was PACKED when I went, but so worthwhile if you're a fan.
And if you want to save the $20 cost, MOMA is free Fridays at 4PM. You need to wait on what looks to be a long line, but you'll get in within 15 minutes if you line up prior to 4.

Great special exhibit at Met on Hatshepsut, a woman Pharaoh (not queen, but king) - whose successor/nephew tried to eradicate from history by scratching her face off monuments etc, and replacing with his own... her art was rediscovered after 3000 years. Thru July 9 only.
And have you been to the Tenement Museum? Not so new, but I hadn't been to NYC for almost 20 years, so it was new to me and I thought it was great. Then eat at Katz' Deli on Houston (not new either).

I've been to Katz's many, many times. I often combine it with a stop at Yonah Schimmel's knishes, Russ & Daughter's and Sugar Sweet Sunshine Bakery (for their Lemon Cupcakes) so I can stock the room with snacks while I am there.
While I haven't been to the Tenement Museum yet, it was on my list of things to do this time. My cousin went a year ago and said it was great.

That Fair on May 14 sounds interesting. I have an Aunt who lives right near Amsterdam Ave. and 103 St., and she hasn't left her apartment in about 20 years. She's now 90+ years old, so going to the fair would be a good reason to get the group up there, and I could divert for a little while and go see her.
Is there any way to get more info on the Amsterdam Ave. street fair?

I saw Bridge and Tunnel. Good but I didn't love it. I thought the star was brilliant, but some of the subject matter/script a little trite/preachy... jmho...

There isn't much info about that fair, they are generally a good "walk/shop" down the avenue type thing with lots of crafts/etc... with snack stands too...

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

The neighborhood street fairs are mostly a lot of tube sock vendors, plastic purses and assorted junk. Skip it and explore some interesting neighborhoods on foot. Best NY fair events are juried or invitation only art and craft shows. Usually 2 or 3 take place behind Lincoln Center in the summer.
The summer art fairs in and around Washington Square park are also nice and more interesting. Use the NYC citysearch calendar for dates.
