Coney Island... worth the subway ride?

It looks like Coney Island is on the way back..

We were considering a day there coming out of Manhattan.

Is it worth it?

Is the subway ride dangerous, painful, or a breeze?

Don't bother.

Not dangerous, just not worthwhile.

Might be worth it

It totally depends on what you are hoping to do. If you are a real roller coaster enthusiast, the Cyclone alone would be worth the ride.

If you are very into hot dogs, you might find the original Nathan's interesting.

If you have children the New York Aquarium is underappreciated.

The New York Mets also have a minor league team out in Coney Island.

In general however, the area is not very nice.

I would rather go to Great Adventure in NJ.

My sister lives in Jersey. The kids, well, 25 and 27 year olds, go very occasionally.

Your best bet is to enjoy the boardwalk in Jersey.

If you are going with younger kids, the aquarium next door is really great. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Very interesring

Also Brighton Beach, close by. A beachfront community made up of Russian emigres, interesting and good restaurants. Also the Coney Iland Aquariam.
