New York Breaks Summer Cool Streak Record

    For previous record reports, see:
    Record Heat

July 19 Update: The National Climatic Data Center reports the following number of July 17 record temperatures across the U.S. for stations with at least 30 years of data:
Daily high maximum temperature: 15 new, 14 tied
Daily low minimum temperature: 48 new, 20 tied

For the entire month of July to date:

7 PM Update: Here's a little perspective on the New York City record: All of New York state is 0.024% (2.4*10^-4) of the total surface area of the entire globe. (And if you're visiting from a cold-weather-all-the-time blog, check out the Record Heat they're not telling you about.)

    Original post:
With a high on Friday of 86°, New York City broke its record spell of 46 consecutive days without reaching 85° since June 1. The last time the temperature failed to hit 85° in June was 1916. The only previous occurrences were 1903 and 1886. This June was tied for the 8th coolest, and it was the second wettest in history. From the National Weather Service public information statement:

The last 90 degree day was in April here in CT. July rainfall was a fraction of an inch under the record.

Not much better here in Mass., although we have had A FEW (maybe 3 ) 90 degree days, (just barely though............) Rainfall's just barely missed the record.......... If we're talking 90 degree HUMIDITY......... now that's a different story!!

              and which kind are they

It was so cold in June on Cape Cod there was nights I wanted to turn on the heat! In the 20+ years I've lived here it has been the coolest summer. I've only had the A/C on a few evenings and that was actually due to humidity....

Still, the visitors are streaming over the bridges, and for the seassonal businesses that's a very good thing. The Chamber of Commerce was concerned due to the very slow start of summer this year, but things now seem to be at an equal to last year according to the newspapers.

Good for me. I needed my A/C condensing unit replaced. Got a good deal since the A/C business was slow.

Where I live in southeast FL it's been hot but dry. We should be getting aftenoon rains every day. We are going days and days with either no rain or very little. It's been good for us personally as we've been able to use the ATVs alot more than I thought we would but it's not so good for the environment overall.

                          Don't send us anything Lawren.

I for one have enjoyed this nice mild summer in South Florida. Okay so the rain is going north but hopefully that means we won't get any hurricanes.

The beach has been beautiful in Hollywood this week at Enchanted Isle. A nice cool breeze all afternoon and night. Have been eating all my meals out over the beach and no mosquitoes and flies this year.

                          What a nice blessing.
