West Side Story is playing on Broadway now? OMG. That is my favorite musical of all time. It never ran when I lived in NJ. That is something I am definitely going to do.

Boca,
I just got a special from Travelzoo today on discount tickets. Let me go find it and post it here.
Okay Big Frank, you convinced me. I need to try one of those Kobe Beef aged steaks at Uncle Jack's. Wanna get together in early September like we did in Boca a couple of years ago? I can always use a nice steak, wine, cognac and cigar.
My mother will be with me. She is a big tennis fan and so I decided to take her to the US Open.
First off stay in Queens it will be cheaper and closer to the event.
1) Pastrami and/or Corned Beef. Miss it dearly. Gotta have the best. Bens on Queens Blvd
2) Fancy Steak Restaurant. Gotta have a New York Steak in New York. Uncle Jacks try the Kobe Rib Eye if you do not mind spending
3) Best Indian Food. Miss it dearly. Gotta have some Chicken Vindaloo that will melt my boots with fluffy naan bread. Even a vegetarian buffet would be fine.
4) Pizza. I might just go to Penn Station to get it. But, I'd like your vote. Pizza sucks in most places I go. Gotta hit Lombardi's. Rosa's near me but if you want Brick Oven I will take you to Oneils where you can get the best Brick oven Pizza and a huge aged Porterhouse for 2 and 3 sides for $72 Pizza is $16 extra.5) Italian Food. I need some out of this world red sauce and antipasto. anything else that goes with it is a bonus. I think I can help here just hang out with me all week.6) Cheesecake. Anyone make it better than Carnegie Deli? It's all good in NY.
Big Frank,
I don't mind hanging out wit you as long as you take me to the places that made you "Big" Frank instead of "Skinny" Frank.

Can't argue with Katz's for the best pastrami and corned beef. I also like Carnegie deli. I know it is a touristy place, but don't hold that against them.
Uncle Jack's is great. I think Old Homestead is real New York. If on my dime, that would be my first choice. At work we also like Wolfgangs. I actually think the food is great, but find the place too loud for my liking. Others like Bobby Van's, but I would only go if someone else were paying. Another place that is one of my favorites but has not seemed to catch on like some of the others is Quality Meats on w. 58th Street. I've eaten there 3 times and I've liked the food, service, and space each time. I describe it as a steakhouse that doesn't have the stuffy man in a suit feel to it. It is not cheap. Its owned by the same folks that own Smith & Wollensky which I do not like.
I am one that believes Indian food is about eating not dining. I think Tabla, while delicious is not eating real Indian food. I like the lunch buffet at Diwan on E. 48th, but someone recently told me that they closed. Dawat is kind of the old school classic New York City indian restaurant and always excellent, but expnsive. Otherwise, I agree that heading down to 6th Street is the way to go. Curry in a Hurry is decent and popular, I used to grab a bite there often between work and grad school 10 years back. Ate there recently and was still very solid, but I would only go for takeout.
Pizza is such a subjective item. When I got a call yesterday from someone from out of town asking the same thing, I told them to go to John's on Bleecker. The touristy John's on W. 44th Street is fine for my tastes. I love their bruschetta as well. Patsy's is good too, but I still prefer John's. The best is Grimaldi's in Brooklyn, but the whole experience of going there is somewhat annoying.
I am not a cheesecake eater, so I have no opinion whatsoever on that topic.
As I sit in my office near Grand Central Station, i now have to figure out what to have for lunch.
We just went to NY two weeks ago (to see Paul McCartney - yeah!) and wandered on the greatest place for brunch. Try B Bar and Grill, Bowery & 4th Street. 212-475-2220. We went at noon for Sunday brunch and amazingly, it wasn't crowded - -by all rights, it should have been packed but we walked right in. It is a lovely shaded patio with fabulous service and great, well-priced food. It also had waitresses straight out of central casting, every one of them gorgeous!

Give it a try.

Sundays in the summer are MUCH quieter than other times of year, most of the city residents (at least the restaurant-going set) are gone
