  • One night in VT - Killington, Woodstock or Quechee?

We are going to spend Labor weekend in VT, never been there before. I booked 2 nights Sat and Sun in Smugglers Notch using points. Now I need to find Friday night stay. We will be driving from CT so Killington, Woodstock or Quechee is logical stop. Which one of them is more suitable for a couple with 12 and 13 yo and what is there for us to do?
Any info would be greatly appreciated, Vicky.

Killington has great mountainbiking (rentals available nearby) and is very pretty. There is also some really nice hiking. We picked up a great (not very rigorous) trail at the Inn at Longtrail and there was a spectacular vista at the end. I'm pretty sure there are other good hikes in the area, too.

I'm not familiar with the other two towns (assuming you mean Woodstock, VT).

I owned a house for many years in Quechee.

I say, stay in Woodstock (at the Woodstock Inn or one of the B&Bs) and book lunch at Simon Pearce's in Quechee.

      Go to Hanover, too.

Woodstock gets a lot of props as a very cute town, good architecture. Pretty main Square, considered somewhat unique, white N.E. style houses and good restaurants. Kids that age -- shopping?

There is a raptor museum in Quechee
          VINS Nature Center
that sounds like fun if you are into birds of prey, and I would also check out Quechee Gorge, very pretty.

I think the bridge over Quechee Gorge has been featured on Anheuser Busch Christmas commercials with the Clydsdales. It's very picturesque.

We used to camp at the state park there and it was a lovely campground. I haven't been back to Queechee for over 25 or 30 years, though. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Queeshee is between Killington and Woodstock and they are all within 1/2 hr of each other. Woodstock has charm and we enjoy walking the streets and visiting the stores (not necessarily buying anything.) I've never stopped in Queechee, only driven thru. Killington has more activities since it is a skiing town. Kids would probably enjoy Killington more.

A little too early for the fall foliage.

              Enjoy your trip.

Hanover, N.H. - home of Dartmouth College. It's ~ 8 miles east of Quechee/White River Junction.

A seet Ivy League college town with nice shops and restaurants. I was seated across from the former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, at a small eatery there once. He has a place in Hanover.

Oh, Norwich, Vt. is sort of in between Quechee/WRJ and Hanover. There's a great Saturday morning farmer's market there and very near is the King Arthur Flour baking company. It's fun !

                      Killington

We stayed in Killington last year. My daughter was 14 and we went to the Killington Ski Resort.(Not sure if that's the actual name) Absolutely loved it ..for the summer they have the alpine slide, rock climbing and miniature golf! We also hiked down the Queeche Gorge it wasn't too far away. You could actually do the Gorge on your way up to Smuggler's. It doesn't take that long.!
Woodstock is a nice little town but may be boring for the teens!

Thought of one more thing.. The Marsh-Billings-Rockefellar National Park is in Woodstock also. Really nice tour thru the mansion. The Billings Farm is animals I think. We only did the mansion so not sure about the Farm.

Try the Raptor Center in Quechee.

I'm still of member of the Quechee Club. If you want to golf there (it's a private club), I will sponsor you. Just email me.
