  • Any quiet spots in the middle of Manhattan?

Just took my mother and my daughter to day trip to the city. We all like to have some quiet time in the middle of the day to relax and get ready for the second round. Something more then just a restaurant where you got to leave as soon as you are done eating. We like Marriott Marquis View Lounge since it's close to everything, has great view and nice desert buffet.
Are there any other nice indoor places in Manhattan to relax for couple of hours? (without reservation )

    Thanks for all your answers,
    Vicky

Bryant Park next to the library is a nice spot. Central Park is another place to consider.

I recently had late lunch with a friend at Landmark in the Time Warner building at Columbus Circle. We were both impressed with how quiet and peaceful the restaurant was, with a spectacular view of the circle and the park. The waiter encouraged us to sit and chat as long as we liked--no rushing.

Thank you Wackymother, will try Landmark.
I guess probably some hotel lounges would serve as quiet place to rest.

I love the Landmarc. It gets pretty crowded at times, especially pre-opera/ballet/phil and weekend brunch, but off hours are great. Not inexpensive, though. The other advantage is that the whole TW building multistory lobby is pretty cool - art exhibits and shops. I have never had time to really browse the art there, I'm always rushing and just passing by it on the escalator. There's also a cafe (Bouchon Bakery) outside of the Landmarc in the open area.

I haven't tried it, but the Lobby Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental in the same building (35th floor) sounds like a nice option.

In the theatre district, the lobby lounge at the W is a good place to relax if off-hours, but I'm not sure about food there. Clean bathroom, though...

I would definitely do central park. There are restaurants there. It's very serene.

I like the Roosevelt Hotel Lobby, right near Grand Central because it's very quiet and has a reasonable little coffee shop. The Grand Hyatt is next to Grand Central, and that's a fantastic place to hang out too...no food though, but you can bring it in.
