  • Oregon Coast Resorts

I am planning a summer or Thanksgiving 2013 visit to the Oregon coast. I've never been there. I own Worldmark and it looks like Worldmark has lots of properties there.

I really want to go to Depoe Bay in hopes of seeing whales. I understand that there is not really any beach access, so I wonder if I will get bored. I know we can drive to other parts to check them out, but I'm used to California driving where it takes forever to get anywhere. If Oregon is like that, I won't want to venture out of the resort area too often.

From all the reviews I've read, I think I've narrowed it down to these 3:
Worldmark Depoe Bay - for whales
Worldmark Gleneden - easy beach access
Otter rock - whales and lots of nature trails

    Are there others worth considering?

I have a search in SFX. If I don't get a match by the time my 13 month window booking opens, I may schedule a split week at Depoe and Gleneden. Since we don't usually stay a full 7 days anywhere, I don't really want to throw away my WM credits.

    Oregon

My folks own four weeks at Depoe Bay WorldMark. We have gone there a few times and enjoy it. We have seen whales there and a short drive to Newport to view the seals that sit on the docks. We also go to Moe's for chowder each trip and I like to walk down and check out the area where they filmed the fishing trip scene from One flew over the Cukoo's Nest.

My vote is Schooner Landing. Newport has much more to do than Depoe Bay.

        Embarcadero

Is right on the harbor in Newport. Onsite restaurant, walk to the downtown core, excellent location. Greg

We're heading to WM Seaside in July. It's our first visit to Oregon. It should be a great time to escape from the Phoenix heat.

There is no bad Worldmark location on the Oregon Coast. Seaside is really nice because the resort is in the center of the main tourist area. Seaside is a fairly good sized city with plenty of stores. Seaside is inbetween Canon Beach and Astoria. Both are about 20 minutes away and have tourist attractions. Seaside is our favorite Oregon Coast location.

WM Depoe Bay has a pod of resident whales that get fairly close to shore, bring binoculars. There isn't much to the town of Depot Bay.

WM Gleneden is located on a great strech of sandy beach. Salishan Golf course is really nice and is located in Gleneden. Not much of a town.

Otter Rock is nice but is in the middle of no where. The resort is on a hill.

WM Schooner Landing is on the oposit side of the bay from the main tourist activities. A short 5 minute drive to the tourist area. There is beach access here. Lincoln City is really close to Newport. There is a nice casino called Chinook Winds in Lincoln City.

Embarcadero is in Newport and is inside the bay. It looks over the marina.

Rockaway Beach Resort is located in Rockaway Beach. This is a pretty nice beach in a neat area but the resort is a bit older. This area is close to Tillamook. We stay at a beach house near the jetty in Minihaha. Nice area.

Its always chilly in the evenings on the Oregon Coast. August and September are the warmest months. After mid September can be rain rain rain.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I am decided on Seaside for next summer. Another WM owner is booking a 5 night stay for me at cost and I will have a nice 3 bedroom unit. We have extended family near Portland, so I am getting the extra space so that they can join us for the weekend.

I do plan on checking out all of the other areas in the future.

Embarcadero is pretty fun, you can rent crabpots and throw them in and have Crab for dinner.

We loved the Oregon coast 6 years or so ago! The sand dunes buggy ride was tons of fun. Stayed in Newport, one night at the Embarcadero and stopped by Astoria and Seaside on the drive down from Seattle. Might check out the cheese factory tour Things To Do On The Oregon Coast - Tillamook

That is the only cheese that my son will eat. That could be a really fun outing for us.
