Steamboat Today: Excess not quite as cool anymore in Steamboat

Tyler Niess, senior director of Intrawest’s sales and marketing arm Playground Destination Properties, was delivering a keynote address at the opening of Steamboat's Economic Summit 2010.

I'm struggling to understand why anyone would take seriously the comments of the director of sales and marketing for a company that just went into bankruptcy due falling sales.

This is like inviting a saber-tooth tiger to be the keynote speaker at a conference on global warming.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

    “You shouldn't wear that body.”

As a part time resident of Steamboat (and a subscriber to the Steamboat Pilot), I agree with the Intrawest comments based on observing Real Estate sales in town. Really high end places like One Steamboat Place seem to do OK but after that, mid to "semi-high" range properties with a lot of amenities are in a big slump. Places that are just condos with few if any deluxe features are still selling although like everywhere else, at prices much below a couple of years ago.

It may be peculiar to Steamboat but it would not surprise me it it is true elsewhere.

        Cheers
