    How about Breckenridge?

I don't know of anywhere with free transport to/from the airport OR that has 'cheap' lift tickets, but Breckenridge is a great ski town for families with kids. As far as crowds go, If you're planning a trip during any school vacation, you will have to deal with 'some' crowds.
We've been going there for 7 yrs now and usually go at spring break. We did go once over Christmas and this past Jan we did the second week. It was much less crowded, but even in high season I've never thought it was 'too crowded'. There are so many runs, and they're so long and wide, even in peak season we can find runs with hardly any people on them.
We love Grand Timber Lodge, which is ski/in ski/out. They also have a free shuttle that will pick you up at the bottom of any peak. Very convenient and sometimes easier than skiing back depending on the location of your unit.
There are several new condo rental units on the bottom of peak seven and eight that are literally right past the lift. Beaver Run Resort is on the base of peak nine, and closest to the downtown area. It's an older resort but they have good entertainment in the lounge, and it's always hopping over there.
Have fun where ever you decide to go!

You can easily hone your skills in Breckenridge, or any other mountain location as they have plenty of green runs for beginners. I wish I had known that years ago. We would have gone when my kids were much younger.
But you can't beat free lift tickets!
