Park City, UT - As yet another winter storm sits poised on the doorstep of Utah's Wasatch Mountains, Park City Mountain Resort staffers report that their slopes were blanketed with nearly two feet of “The Greatest Snow on Earth” from late Monday night and through Tuesday afternoon. More than 40 inches of new snow has fallen since Friday with the new snowstorm expected to start on Wednesday night.
"The snowfall we’ve seen in the past few days is a welcome addition to the already fantastic conditions we’ve had this season,” said Krista Parry, director of marketing/communications of Park City Mountain Resort. “These recent snowstorms are setting up conditions perfectly for a phenomenal month for spring break visitors.”
Park City Mountain Resort is reporting a settled snow depth of 60 inches at mid-mountain and 86 inches at Jupiter. The snow has arrived just in time for some of the world’s top skiers and snowboarders to participate in the fifth annual World Superpipe Championships on March 10 and 11. The invited riders will compete for a piece of the $90,000 purse in the Eagle Superpipe, the world’s largest superpipe and the site for the 2002 Winter Games.
On Saturday, March 10, some of the best male and female snowboarders in the world will compete for a piece of the $90,000 purse in a best of three-run format. Shaun White, 2006 Olympic Gold Medalist, will compete for the first time in the World Superpipe Championships. Other invitees include: Mason Aguirre, Danny Davis, Kelly Clark and Antti Autti. On Sunday, March 11, top male skiers, including Tanner Hall, will compete in the same three-run format. Other invited skiers include: Simon Dumont, Jon Olsson and Candide Thovex.
The event is free to the public and will include live music, food, and giveaways.
