We love PC in the summer! It has great weather and low crowds, and it's beautiful! We just booked a 2BR at Marriott MountainSide for June too.
At Park City Mountain Resort they have lots of fun activities for kids -- chair lift rides from which you can hike or bike down trails, zip line, alpine slides, alpine coaster, bungee/trampoline and mini golf (have never done that as the course looks kind of gross...). It's a fun way to spend an afternoon. My kids love to swim and could swim all day, so we do that as well as resort activities/crafts.
Main Street in Park City is fun with lots of unique shops and fun restaurants.
Up towards Provo Canyon there are fun hikes and also you can go tubing with a place that picks you up at the end of the float and also provides wetsuits. There are also recreation parks and sometimes we have taken marshmallows and made smores/hot dogs, etc.
You could do a trip to Hogle Zoo in SLC, not too far away and a pretty good zoo.

What is there to do at the Great Salt Lake? Want the Grandchildren to see it. know what it is and enjoy it, so when they study about it in school, they have been there.

Here's a good link that talks about some of the things that you can do at the lake.
Great Salt Lake | Utah.com
Swimming is possible (you'll float because of the high salt content), but you'll want to be sure that you have showers to get rid of the salt. If you can go at a time of year when the brine flies aren't too bad, then it can actually be fairly pleasant. Of course, that's not when I was last there. I did enjoy the time spent at Antelope Island state park. Don't know what your budget is, but sailing and boating are possible. It would be a great experience for kids to learn about why the lake is salty and experience firsthand. In some ways, I feel bad that I can't tell you more because I spent most of my first 20 years within an hour drive, but I've only really been there since I moved away. Hope that helps.
