  • Rams Horn Village ?

Saw an exchange for May 1st 2009. This is on my list of must do's. What are the chances of it being a big snow, don't like driving in the snow coming from the south. Should I wait for a later date? shaggy

Big snow? Very unlikely. But a decent chance of some flurries if you are there for a week. Heck, I have had it snow on me in Estes Park on the 4th of July!

With the high altitudes and dry, thin air, we get some huge temperature swings here. It would most likely be quite cool at night (20s), but the days will be in the 60s or 70s that time of year. I wouldn't worry about having to drive on snow -- even if it did snow a bit, the ground is warm enough by then that the roads would only be wet, not icy.

Also of note: Trail Ridge Road will not be open to the top at that time. The road crews get it open by Memorial Day most years. But you will still be able to go into Rocky Mountain National Park and explore a large portion of it. You can't beat the views in the park!

As was said elsewhere, and as you appear to have decided elsewhere, don't go in May.

It's a Small World . . . yesterday I was sent to talk timeshare to a Newbie. Of all the places in the world to mention, I mentioned EP. Lo and Behold, he and his are heading there in June, same as when we went there.

I mentioned Ram's Horn, and he and his DW had looked at it, to rent for this trip, but settled on a cedar cabin between RH and YMCA of the Rockies.

Makes me hungry for some pecan taffy from the taffy shop on the main drag.

Hey, here it is today . . . May!

In Estes Park . . . High today 39 Low Today 23 72% chance of snow.

      In the 15-day forecast . . . High high of 69, Low low of 21 . . . 5 days of rain or snow.

None of it really decent sitting by the river watching little trouties weather.
