drive time estes park to west yellowstone? - BocaBum?

I was googling for an answer to this question (I still am trying to find it).

After a few pages I came upon another forum, Worldmark Owners, with this comment from BocaBum, posted June 22:

"We are heading to Estes Park next Saturday and then are continuing on to W. Yellowstone for July 5-12. Can't wait. We've never been to that part of the country."

So Boca, or anyone, how many hours, via what routes? ie can this drive be done sanely in one day?

maps.yahho.com says it is about a 10 hour drive (just plug in the two end points, and it will give you the best driving route). It just depends on your definition of a day's drive. To me, anything under 12 hours is fine.

I have a AAA Triptik. It is 581.2 Miles from WorldMark Estes Park to WorldMark W. Yellowstone.

In addition, I just bought a Garmin GPS Navigator. Can't wait to use it. We are heading to Las Vegas tomorrow and on to Estes Park on Saturday for a LONG.... DRIVE.....

Jim, which model GPS did you get? I have the Nuvi 660 and found it to be a great unit. Not 100% but certainly upper 90% accurate. It will be front and center on our drive from Minneapolis to Rapid City, then on to Big Sky MT and back to Minneapolis on our trip July 4-13. I expect our trip, including our visit to Yellowstone, will result in a drive of 2,200 to 2,500 miles.

Now if I can only dehydrate my wife for the long road trip...

I got the NUVI 260w. It was listed for $349 at Best Buy. My wife asked to check Amazon.com for ratings and it was listed there for $269. They gave us a price match because after that, they knew we weren't going to put it for $349.

I wanted to higher end one that did traffic. My wife said "no way" so we agreed to get the 260w.

We're debating about whether 10.something hours + stops is too much for a day - either we got older, or smarter. It used to be fine, but now it might make us too tired to do much the following day w/o getting grumpy. But if it's a beautiful drive, it's more fun and less tiring. Anyone know whether most of this route is a pretty scenic trip?

Also we'd probably have to drive back to Denver from Jackson, which is 8.5 hrs...

Too bad you're not a bird. I did a Google Map distance measure for Estes Park to West Yellowstone, 414 miles as the bird flies (assuming the bird can get proper altitude to clear the mountains.)
