  • Lake Condominiums, Big Sky-info?

We have Lake Condominiums in Big Sky Montana booked for next week. We got a letter about checking in and the combination to the lock box to get our key or get in the unit or something. I called the place at 7pm their time, and no answer, just the machine. I wanted to find out more about the place so I would know if I need to bring anything. We are driving, so I have some room in the SUV.

Does anyone know anything about this place? Is it a 'mom and pop' resort? It looks as if it is miles from anywhere. I can't find even a grocery store on the GPS closer that about 30 miles. Anyone have any experience with this resort or that area?

We are going to try white water rafting. Last time I did that was in Pigeon Forge Tn, and I kept hearing banjo music in my head. We will also hit Yellowstone a couple times, but other than that, not sure what to do other than sit and relax.

    Don,

I stayed there last summer. It is a great little resort in a beautiful area. The units are spacious, but basic. Clean and comfortable, nothing fancy. I loved it and would return in a heartbeat. The folks in the office are friendly, but the office has limited hours. We arrived when they were closed and got our keys from the lockbox. The unit we were assigned on arrival was different from the unit we expected so be sure to check your keys. We were trying to get into the wrong unit.

We did our "big" grocery shopping in Bozeman, but you can find some things in Big Sky. Also, there are other resorts, houses, cabins, golf, and restaurants. It isn't that remote.

We went rafting on the upper Gallatin which was a lot of fun and was for all ages. The lower portion is rougher and one of our party went the next day and did that portion of the river. There is also horsebackriding and ATV riding in the area.

It is a beautiful drive to Yellowstone. Be careful at night; there are lots of deer on the highway on the way back to Big Sky. We did a day trip to Jackson Hole, through Yellowstone and Grand Teton Parks, but it was quite a drive.

Fishing is a big thing in the area, you will always see folks standing in the river in their waders.

The timeshare itself has all the basics that you would expect. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

The information I have says they have grills, on the deck I think. Do you remember if they are gas or charcoal? If gas, I am sure they provide that, but if charcoal, I will need to have that with me.

I do hope they have wine glasses. What would I do without a nice cab to go with the steak from the grill??

Vitner, you are going to love Big Sky. We also arrived when the office was closed and had to use the lock box to get our keys. Thankfully, there was an envelope for us.

There is a decent little grocery with the basic necessities down the mountain. And, it does have wine. We enjoyed great food at Cinnamon Lodge and other places I have forgotten the name of. We also had some great breakfast food at a service station right on the highway.

And, as catwgirl says, the drive to West Yellowstone from Big Sky is awesome.

You are going to love this vacation. We found the people to be super friendly. Enjoy the good things they make from huckleberries.

That is good news. As best as I can remember, I have not been to Yellowstone since the 60s. I am looking forward to a nice vacation...and probably more important, time away from work.

I think the white water rapids trip should be fun and I will take my motion sick pills for the rafting and driving around the mountains.

If I figure this right, I think this trip will be:
2200 miles @ 28 miles per gallon (plus or minus 2 MPG)
=78.5 gallons of gas @ $4.10 per gallon (plus or minus $.50)
          $322 for gasoline.

Still cheaper than flying, but it will cost time instead of money.

I just read a review that said the BBQs are propane.

And pack your salt and pepper.

Have a great time! I was there at this time last year. The weather was great. Enjoy.
