We are vacationing in Big Sky, Montana. I have learned a lot about the area. The resort and ski area was started by Chet Huntley (of Huntley and Brinkley news) back in the early ‘70s. There are several resorts on this part of the mountain. The one we are at is Lake Condominiums.
The scenery is beautiful. The mountains are so high, snow capped and amazing. Gas is almost as high as the mountains, $4.33 by Yellowstone, $4.19 at Big Sky. For the most part, gas is over $4.00 in Montana, about $3.9X in South Dakota but NOTE-Mid range prices are often lower than regular. I found mid range gas for $3.82 while the reg. was 3.88.
We left Rapid City about 6:30 Sunday morning and drove with only a few stops and I picked a road that had nothing to stop for...gas, food, sights. If anyone else wants to drive from Rapid City SD to Big Sky MT, stay on I-90, don't go the shorter 212 route. We did see Little Big Horn. Between the (very pretty ) Ranger lady who spoke passionately about her Crow history, and the DW who is a history teacher, I got an earful of what happened, more then I needed to know.
The resort area is big for winter and ski season, and is trying to get full year, but they have a bit more to go for that. We got into the resort area about 5:30, tired and hungry. Try to find something to eat on a summer night in a ski area that shuts down for the summer We finally found a bar, and got food from the bar.
We have plans for Yellowstone on Tuesday and Friday, Virginia City, MT on Thursday (and our 9 year annv. celebration dinner ), and white water rafting (half day) on Wednesday.
Due to the long drive, we will have to cut our stay at the resort short, leaving on Saturday, stay overnight in Bismarck, ND, then back to Minneapolis on Sunday.
I have taken pictures of the unit, and the area, and hope to provide a review once I get back.
