Can someone please recommend some very nice RCI resorts in a great ski area to take the family for Spring Break skiing (last week in March). Either Utah or Colorado would work for us. The ski area should accommodate kids (ages 8-13) and have good ski schools. I want to try and exchange into a decent resort for skiing. Thanks. Tim

Spring Break Skiing -- Need Recommendation

Park City and the Canyons both have great ski schools. Deer Valley is supposed to be great but we have boarders in our group so can't go there (skiers only). Best resorts in the RCI directory look like Grand Summit at the Canyons and Miners Club at the Canyons, but I have never seen ski weeks online at these. Park Plaza is nice, not ski-in/ski-out, but they have a shuttle to Park City and Deer Valley (not the Canyons, though). Park Regency is easier to trade into, reviews aren't as good but it's also on the shuttle line. There are Extra Vacations available at Park Plaza for spring weeks. You might also consider North Lake Tahoe; Squaw Valley is supposed to be great. Hopefully someone else can help with Colorado.

You asked this question on TUG as well. Here my response there: http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthr...773#post141773

While on the topic of skiing out in the Rockies...
I am an East Coast Ice Skiier and I don't know how to ski powder if my life depended on it.... (perhaps it could have a lot to do with my carving skis). I am curious about grooming at these various resorts you all have listed as well...
My daughter (she is 8) is doing great (ready to ski diamonds at Killington) while my Son (age 5) is not capable of standing on skis at all, and our youngest daughter (she is 2) is a few years out...
So, I have time but I am interested in a ski week to try some of the really big mountains once we get all three of them on skis...
We just don't get to play with deep powder here and when we get it I tend to hate it (again likely because I have the wrong skis). Perhaps I need to buy some all mountain or real powder skis as my current skis are 184 carving skis and they do work great on the ice but in more then a few inches of powder they want to submarine under the snow and twist me around.... just no float... then again, perhaps if I lost 50-lbs that might help too.

Many of the resorts have grooming reports available. Look around in the base area for an information person or ask at the ticket booth. The ones that I have definitely seen grooming reports are Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Steamboat. They will typically show you which runs have been groomed recently. If you prefer corduroy (that's what the ski mags call it), Beaver Creek it probably best known for it. The expert runs are generally not groomed and are covered with moguls. Unless it is a big dump, the powder is typically packed down by skiers fairly quickly. You have to hit the slopes early to ski the "freshies" on lighter snow days.

Groomed Ski Runs
Many of the resorts in Colorado (Vail, Keystone, Beaver Creek, etc.) have their grooming reports on the net. We typically log in to the grooming report first thing in the morning and plan our daily ski runs over breakfast!
Beaver Creek has won several World Class awards for it's grooming. You will not have any trouble finding groomed runs on any day, even when's it's snowing a foot a day!
