We are going to Yellowstone August 22 and staying at Island Park Village Resort. We want to add a few days on the beginning in Jackson, WY and then the Grand Tetons, before we go to Island Park. Any recommendations on where to stay in Jackson and then in the park?

In the park there are a variety of places to stay. I always enjoy the old Inn at old faithful. It is creaky, pipes bang, bathrooms down the hall but I love the history of the place and it makes the inconveniences tolerable.

Probably the niceist accomodations in Yellowstone are at the Lake hotel.
Roosevelt cabins are fun but it is glorified camping - the cowboy dinner though is great fun

For comfortable no frills go for Grant Village, canyon lodge or lake lodge. THese are motel type accomodations

    In Jackson

We like the 49er Inn & Suites

Town Square Inns : Jackson Hole, Wyoming

    or Parkway Inn

In Teton Park we enjoyed Jackson Lake Lodge

My friend and I spent 9 days last September in the Grand Teton/Yellowstone area. We flew into Jackson Hole on a Saturday and spent the night at the Wort Hotel in the middle of town. We also spent our final Saturday there as well before flying out for home. The Wort Hotel is a very old historic hotel but also expensive. If we ever returned to that area again, we would find cheaper accommodations in Jackson, or mores likely skip the town entirely and drive straight to Jackson Lake Lodge, which was one of the highlights of our trip. We had what they call a view cabin ( I think that is what it was called as I don’t have my notes handy) and what a view it was. Waking up in the morning seeing from our balcony (we were on the 2nd -top- floor) Jackson Lake and the Grand Teton mountain range is something neither of us will ever forget. There also were herds of elk roaming around in the distance and at night we could often hear their rutting sounds. The huckleberry Margaritas at the Lodge’s outdoor patio weren’t bad either and their main restaurant was very good. We arranged at the Lodge to do a Snake River float and also a Jackson Lake cruise. The view cabins (they are not really cabins) were expensive, but to us, worth every penny.

We also spent 2 nights at Yellowstone Lake Hotel and 2 nights at the Old Faithful Inn. While the Lake Yellowstone Hotel was nice, it was nothing special, and was very expensive. We really enjoyed the Old Faithful Inn for its history and charm. We did have a room with a bath, however, as charm goes only so far.

All in all, we had a great vacation. I hope you do too.
