  • Help with pick for New Orleans stay

Am looking at going to New Orleans and have three choices for where to book.
Wyndham at Avenue Plaza, La Belle Maison, and Plaza Suite Hotel Resort.
Any suggestions as to which one to pick??
I lived in NO for a couple of years back in the 60's and would probably pick the Wyndham closer to downtown Canal Street except that reviews have said that if not an owner you can't usually get a unit with windows as they are generally reserved for owners. Don't like the sound of that too much.
Wyndham at avenue Plaza location of St. Charles sounds nice but you have to comute to downtown area to see many things. I know the trolly still runs up and down St Charles so that's probably not that bad.
Anyway, any, opinions would be welcome.
    thanks

Someone (Boca?) was just at Avenue Plaza, and though the location was convenient enough with the trolley. I booked Maison for my wife to attend her annual conference later this month, because she wanted to be closer in, and she wasn't overly concerned about the window thing.

NO in the 60s - what a great place. I remember going down there when Mizzou played in the Sugar Bowl - what a time - what stories - ones that I didn't tell my kids or grandkids.

We stayed at Avenue Plaza in December. It is decent enough. The trolley worked well enough to get us to the French Quarter. We had a really nice view and the place is quiet.

If you're worred about windows, avoid Plaza Suites. They don't have any. I liked it, despite the lack of windows, and they had continental breakfast in the Atrium every morning. I thought it was convenient -- about a five-block walk from the Quarter. Don't know anything about the other two.

I have stayed twice at La Belle Maison, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. I don't care about windows in the bedroom, the units are lovely, and it's just a few blocks outside the FQ. Also within spitting distance of two of the finest restaurants in NOLA. Note that most units do not have cooktops, though, which is a drawback.

Do any of them have free parking?

Glitter, if you do not have a car, are there any additional charges at this resort?

You mentioned two fine restaurants nearby. Which are they?

DH will be there Friday to help DS moving out of the dorm, then DS will stay there a few more days to find an apt for next school year. I scored a 1BR sleep 4/2 with a check-in date of this Friday using the RCI resort certificate. Do you think it might have a cooktop in this kind of unit (not that they will do any cooking, I guess)?

From what I have heard, the only one that offers limited free parking is Hotel de la Monnaie...

There were no additional charges without a car but I rented so check your RCI confirmation. Wifi was free. I stayed in a 1 bedroom with a cooktop last year, but this year neither our 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom had one. I would call ahead and ask for one if you care, though they may not switch it. The two restaurants I was talking about are August and Cuvee. I wouldn't wear jeans to either, something I tend to forget down there. The bar/lounge at Cuvee is very nice for a drink.

Thanks Glitter! We have been to Cuvee and really enjoyed it. Didn't realize it's so close to La Belle Maison. Now I really wish that I would be there as well (have to be in Seattle Sunday-Wed).

I doubt they will do any cooking so without cooktop should be fine.

Thanks all for the info. Still debating between staying up on St. Charles Ave or down closer in town but think we would be satisfied with either.
Think I am going to wait a little while before booking now to see what is happening with that oil slick.
I want to do some bird photography while there and also want to see what happens with seafood industry on the coast.
If we don't go this year will probably look at next year but really want to go this year. Looking at November so have a little time still to "waffle".. lol
